Music video and performance

The music video for I'm a Slave 4 U was produced by Francis Lawrence and released with the single. Mainly it shows Spears dancing in a sauna , surrounded by female and male background dancers . For the choreography was Mayte Garcia in charge. Spears' performance of the song in 2001 at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards in New York is one of her most famous, arguably most of all because she wore an albino python around her neck during the performance. The performance received negative reviews from the ranks of the animal welfare organization PETA , which condemned the use of the exotic animal during the performance.

reception

The song was a commercial hit and was well received by both critics and the public. The song is seen as a step by Spears in the right direction with the aim of agreeing on a more mature sound. While it only managed 27th place in the USA, it was able to record far more successes in the European area and achieved top 10 placements almost everywhere. In Germany, for example, it reached number 3 and in Austria number 6. The single was awarded gold in Australia, Norway and Sweden.
