! Oops ... I Did It Again (.! English for: Oops ... I have done it again ') is a song by American pop - singer Britney Spears from her second studio album of the same name Oops! … I Did It Again from 2000. It was released as the first single from the album on March 27, 2000 by Jive Records . The song was written and produced by Max Martin and Rami Yacoub . The musical style shows many similarities to songs on her debut album … Baby One More Time from 1999.
background
Oops! … I Did It Again was written and produced by Max Martin and Rami Yacoub in August 1999. Martin and Spears had previously worked together on their debut album … Baby One More Time . The title was recorded in November 1999 at Cheiron Studios in Stockholm . The background vocals were sung by Nana Hedin and Max Martin themselves.
The song is about someone playing with someone else's feelings over and over again. In a conversation at the end of the song between Spears and a young man, an allusion to the diamond necklace "The Heart of the Ocean" from the film Titanic can be heard. Spears says the following to him (the alleged victim of her “game”) after he gives her an item as a token of love: “But I thought the old lady threw it into the ocean at the end?” He replies, “Yes baby, me was downstairs and got it back up for you! ”She replies that he didn't have to do this.
reception
Oops! ... I Did It Again enjoyed similar commercial success as their debut single ... Baby One More Time and reached the top position in many countries including Australia , Canada , New Zealand and the UK . The accompanying music video is one of their most famous.
The song received mostly positive reviews and was nominated at the 2001 Grammy Awards in the "Best Female Pop Vocal Performance" category. The song is considered Spears' trademark, both in the media and among the general public.
