The Szczecin – Trzebież Szczeciński railway is an electrified, predominantly double-track railway line operated by the Polish state infrastructure company PKP PLK in the extreme northwest of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship . It connects the voivodeship capital Szczecin with the district town Police and the seaside resort Trzebież to the north of it .

The line begins on a single track at the Szczecin Główny station , the main train station in Szczecin, and leaves this together with the line towards Berlin in a south-westerly direction. After a few hundred meters, it turns in an arc to the northwest and, together with the freight connecting railway approaching from the south, passes the main cemetery in Stettin on its eastern side. In the adjoining Szczecin Turzyn railway station, the aforementioned connecting line, via which goods traffic is brought in and out of the line to Trzebież, joins. From here the line is double-tracked and continues northwest around the city center. From around the Grabowo district in the north of the city, it runs essentially in a northerly direction west of the Oder . There are several connecting railways both in the city of Szczecin and in Police. The double-track section currently ends in Police station; once the line to Jasienica was double-track. From Police station, the line continues on a single track to its northern terminus at Trzebież Szczeciński.

Police Station (2008)

Between the station Szczecin Główny and the Szczecin Gocław station is with a compound of the line 6 Stettiner tram . Unlike the railway line, however, this runs almost in a straight line in a south-north direction along the Oder, east of the city center of Szczecin.

history

The railway line and Szczecin suburban railway was put into operation from Stettin to Pölitz on October 1, 1898, and on October 15, 1898 to Jasenitz (Jasienica). In Szczecin's main train station (formerly also known as the “Berliner Bahnhof”), there was a connection to the existing railway lines from Berlin , Pasewalk , Danzig , Poznan and Wroclaw . On March 15, 1910, operations began for the route extension to Ziegenort (Trzebież). The line was built and initially operated by the Prussian State Railways , and from 1920 by the Deutsche Reichsbahn .

Trzebież Szczeciński Railway Station (2007)

The line has been in Poland since the end of World War II in 1945 and was operated from then on by the Polish State Railways. On December 23, 1982, the electric railway began operating on this route.

On October 1, 2002, passenger traffic was stopped. Freight traffic was maintained to connect the chemical plant in Police . In 2008, consideration was given to resuming passenger traffic. Due to the poor condition of the former access points and the resistance of some neighboring communities, the project was suspended.

outlook

According to information from 2017, the route to Police station is to be included in the planned S-Bahn system for Szczecin. In addition to measures at train stations and stops, this also includes the construction of a second track between Szczecin Główny and Szczecin Turzyn. After the tender for the renovation work in June 2017, the track construction company Trakcja PRKiI was awarded the contract in May 2018. New electric multiple units are also to be procured by 2020.
