Thomas "Tom" Peter Odell (born November 24, 1990 in Chichester ) is a British singer-songwriter and pianist .

biography

Tom Odell began playing the piano at the age of seven, and later wrote his own songs. At 18 he moved from West Sussex to Brighton , where he continued his musical education at the renowned Institute of Modern Music. He also performed solo and eventually founded a band with which he also performed in London. There he was discovered by Lily Allen and signed for her own label In the Name Of . He received a recording deal and recorded his debut album in 2012.

In October 2012 a first EP with the title Songs from Another Love was released in advance . An appearance on Later with Jools Holland was followed by the nomination for the Talent Awards of the BBC ( Sound of 2013 ) and MTV as well as for the Critics' Choice Award of the " Brits ", which he won. The attention also helped his song Another Love to enter the top 75 of the UK charts. In Germany and Austria, the song was used in an advertising campaign for the Telekom mobile communications division. The song also made it into the charts in other European countries, including the Top 10 in the Netherlands. The debut album Long Way Down was released in June 2013. His second album Wrong Crowd was released on June 10, 2016.

Special appearances

Following his tour of Germany in autumn 2013, he performed at the finale of the talent show " The Voice of Germany " with finalist Judith van Hel . In June 2016 he performed at the Hurricane Festival in Scheeßel.
