◀   Season 5 Season 7   ▶

The sixth season of the singing talent show The Voice of Germany was broadcast on television from October 20 to December 18, 2016. Like the previous season , it was moderated by Thore Schölermann and Lena Gercke . The jury included the jury duo Smudo and Michi Beck from the hip-hop band Die Fantastischen Vier , the songwriter Andreas Bourani , the songwriter, guitarist and singer Samu Haber and, for the first time, the singer and actress Yvonne Catterfeld . The winner was Tay Schmedtmann from the coaching group of Andreas Bourani.

Unlike in the previous seasons, Sat.1 broadcast the show on Sundays.

First phase: the blind auditions

The castings for the sixth season took place from February to April 2016, but were not shown on television. The blind auditions were recorded from July 5 to 9, 2016 in the Adlershof studio in Berlin and broadcast in nine television programs from October 20 to November 17, 2016. The jury selected 73 candidates - two of them trios - in the second phase, in which Samu Haber, Yvonne Catterfeld and Michi and Smudo with 18 each and Andreas Bourani with 19 candidates moved in.

The nineteen candidates Danyal Demir, Marc Amacher, Mathea Elisabeth Höller, Ruth Lomboto, Stas Schurins, Friedemann Petter, Robin Resch, Anja Kraml, Marie Claudia Apenou, Joel Guzman, Florian Unger, Tay Schmedtmann, Vanessa Iraci, Leon Braje received all four jury votes , Alessio Loriga, Elena Ancuta Stegaru, Sem Eisinger, Jayla Brown and Jonas Hug. Of these, five each decided on Yvonne Catterfeld, Samu Haber and Andreas Bourani and four on Michi and Smudo as coach.

Second phase: the battle round

The Battle Round was recorded in Berlin from August 31 to September 2, 2016 and broadcast in four television programs from November 20 to December 1, 2016. In Andreas Bourani's group of 19 candidates, eight one-on-one duels and one three-way battle took place; in the other three groups, the 18 candidates fought nine one-on-one duels each. The respective coach selected one of the battle participants directly into the next phase. As in the third to fifth season, some inferior battle candidates also got into the next phase if one of the other coaches took them over. All four coaches each took on a candidate from a different group, so that all four coaching groups with ten participants went into the next phase.

Both live broadcasts were broadcast by the television station Sat.1. As in season 5, the coaches did not distribute percentage points, but all decisions were made by televoting by the audience.

First live show (semifinals)

In the first live show on December 11, 2016, four of the twelve candidates advanced: In each coaching group, the three participants performed a song one after the other, after which the audience televoted one of them to the final.

Max Giesinger performed his song 80 million with the twelve candidates.

All four finalists sang Alicia Keys' hit If I Ain't Got You at the beginning of the show . Keys also performed her new song Blended Family (What You Do for Love) .

Tay Schmedtmann and Robin Resch were chosen by televoting as the two artists who were allowed to perform their own new song.
