background information

Sido described how the collaboration with Mark Foster came about in an interview with N24 with the following words: “About two years ago I drove around a lot with my wife and we always heard this song from him in the car, On the Road . Somehow he described our life situation back then. I think the guy is so underrated, he could or should have a lot more success, because he's really crazy. It quickly became clear to me that I wanted to feature him on my album . Then I got the idea with one of these stones and then I knew he had to sing it. "

In one of these stones it is not the only collaboration between Sido and Mark Forster. On Sido's album 30-11-80 there is another duet by the two with the title Somewhere Waiting . The song Fühl dich frei can also be found on the album . This is not a duet between the two; Forster worked here as a songwriter. The song was placed on position 99 of the German single charts due to the high number of individual downloads. In 2014 Sido reciprocated and took part as a guest musician in Forster's single Au revoir , with which the two again achieved top 10 successes and record awards.

“Do you still know the place where I waited for you?
I lay there side by side with the other stones.
I was cold, without a home and alone.
Before you came I was just one of those stones.

I was covered in dust before you found me
Got me going, finally brought me new momentum.
I was cold, petrified and alone.
Before you came, I was just one of those stones. "

- Refrain, original excerpt

Music video

The black and white music video for One of these Stones was shot on one day in Berlin and celebrated its premiere on November 15, 2013 on YouTube . Sido can be seen as a petrified statue , who undergoes a metamorphosis through the proximity and warmth of other people and begins to live for a short time before collapsing into a pile of stones after a few movements. At the beginning he can be seen sitting completely petrified on a staircase on which cockroaches and pigeons are perching. In the middle of the video he gets a visit from a little boy and from himself in real person who keep him company. Then a hooded man comes with a baseball bat and hits him. When this man disappears again, Sido begins to move slowly and gets up from his seat. He takes a few steps before he collapses. Towards the end of the video, reference is also made to Sido's old mask. The little boy who keeps him company later finds Sido's petrified mask in a pile of stones, which he also puts on. The total length of the video is 4:14 minutes. Directed by Joern Heitmann . To date, the video has over 50 million views on YouTube (as of November 2019).

Reviews

In a review of the album 30-11-80, Thomas Haas from the German-language online magazine laut.de has a negative attitude towards the song. They describe it with the following words: “ One of these stones invites you to touch your head. The simplest imaginable metaphor of the “stone among many” for the great love, Sido's calm narrative voice, with which one simply does not want to befriend, and Mark Forster's cheesy hook straight out of the fuckin 'dungeons of the ZDF television garden literally beg for a skip. "

Charts and chart placements

One of these stones reached position four in the single charts in Germany and stayed in the top 10 for three weeks and 17 weeks in the charts. For Sido as an interpreter, this is already the 31st chart success in Germany, the 27th chart success in Austria and the 13th in Switzerland. It is his fifth top 10 success in Germany and his second in Switzerland. For Forster as an author and interpreter, this is the third chart success in Germany and the first in Austria and Switzerland. One of these stones represented Forster's biggest chart success to date, replacing his single On the Way . With the successor single Au revoir, however, he topped the success of this single in all three countries.
