30-11-80 is the fifth solo album by the Berlin rapper Sido . It was released on November 29, 2013 by Universal and reached number 1 in Germany and Switzerland and number 2 in the album charts in Austria . The name of the album is based on Sido's date of birth. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, 30-11-80 was awarded a gold record . In Austria, the album also reached platinum status in October 2014.

background

30-11-80 is Sido's first solo album since Aggro Berlin, which was released in 2009 . In the meantime, however, he had released the live album MTV Unplugged Live aus'm MV in 2010 , the joint collaboration with Bushido 23 as well as the soundtrack for his film Blutzbrüdaz in 2011 and 2012 the best-of album #Beste . The latter had also resulted in the most successful single in Sido's career to date, with the pictures in his head sold over 330,000 times .

On June 3, 2013, Sido announced via Twitter that he wanted to start working on his new album the following day. Two weeks later he revealed his birth date 30-11-80 as the title of the album via Instagram . Originally, Sido intended to name the album “Herr Würdig” because his real name was in the focus of the media several times in 2012, especially in connection with his wedding to the presenter Charlotte Engelhardt . He decided against this album title, however, because Samy Deluxe had already published the album Konspiracy Theories with Beautiful Melodies in 2012 under his real name Herr Sorge . The originally intended, as well as the final album title 30-11-80, which refers to its age, should have clarified a personal maturation process of the artist, which is reflected in the album. Sido had already tried to address a more adult target group on his previous album, Aggro Berlin . He wants to see 30-11-80 as a continuation of this direction.

Emergence

In interviews, Sido referred to the line used in the song “ One of these stones ”, “Before you came, I was just one of these stones”, which occurred to him in Los Angeles , as “the starting point for work on the plate”.

Large parts of the album were released together with the FNSHRS production team within three weeks . (consisting of: Paul NZA , Marek Pompetzki and Cecil Remmler ) and DJ Desue recorded in the Black Rock Studios on the Greek archipelago of Santorin . The production team, which had previously worked with Sido several times, stated in interviews that Sido, who generally writes his texts in recording studios, had already entered the development phase with a relatively large number of concept ideas compared to earlier recordings. On the part of the producers, against the background of the success of the single Bilder im Kopf , the potential radio suitability of several songs was taken into account.

The feature guests Helge Schneider and Mark Forster were flown to Santorini to record their contributions. Mark Forster accompanied Sido on a total of two titles. Udo Lindenberg was originally intended to replace him for the song Somewhere Waiting , but he refused to work with him. The rapper arrest warrant also declined to participate in the song 30-11-80 because he did not want to work with some of the other artists represented on the song. Rapper Cro also recorded a verse for the song Masquerade , which was not released on the album after Cross's record company Chimperator Productions refused to allow the artist to appear in the song's music video.

There was no joint studio recording for the title track 30-11-80 , on which Sido claims to be accompanied by 18 of his personal favorite rappers. This came about because Sido only wanted a few guest contributions on the album 30-11-80 , which should then fall out of his usual musical environment. Since he also wanted to work with many friendly German rappers for the album at the same time, he put them together on this one song. This American “possetracks” such as 5 Boroughs by KRS-One , Buckshot , Cam'ron , Keith Murray , Killah Priest , Prodigy , Redman , Run and Vigilante would have served as a conceptual model . All stanzas of the song were recorded by the participating artists themselves. The artists on title track 30-11-80 are (in order of appearance): Eko Fresh , Lakmann One , Laas Unltd. , Nazar , Gynecologist , Manny Marc , Bushido , Blood & Cash , Olli Banjo , Tarek , Smudo , Erick Sermon , MoTrip , Moses Pelham , Bass Sultan Hengzt , Afrob , Dr. Renz , B-tight

content

The songs on the album deal mainly with Sido's current life situation, his role as a father and his love for his wife. Sido deals intensively with the changes in his life. Sido's intention was, according to his own statements, to use more pictorial texts than on his previous publications, with rhyming aspects being relatively secondary.

The first title of the album, Here I am again , recapitulates Sido's experiences between his last album release and 30-11-80 and is intended to tie in with the thematically comparable titles Sido on Aggro Berlin and Again back on Me and my mask , which each These albums started.

In Papa, what are you doing there , Sido addresses his own role model function for his children. In the second stanza of the song, he processed his argument with the Austrian journalist and presenter Dominic Heinzl , whom he had become palpable in October 2012 as part of a recording of the ORF television program Die große Chance . According to Sido, the song should convey the negative headlines affecting him towards his children, which he felt as a personal shame . Enrico tells the story of a Sinti who grows up in a high-rise estate in Berlin-Marzahn . Sido, who is himself a Sinti and temporarily lived in a high-rise in Berlin's Märkisches Viertel , claims to have included impressions of his own biography in the song in places.

Work deals ironically with unemployment. With one of these stones and love , two love songs are also represented on the album. The song Masquerade , on which Sido, who appeared in a chrome-plated skull mask for several years at the beginning of his solo career, is accompanied by the masked artists Marsimoto and Genetikk , has exactly this commonality of the artists involved on the subject. 30-11-80 is the only song on the album that still has elements of the battle rap subgenre , which played a larger role on Sido's previous releases.

Hip-Hop magazine Juice rated 30-11-80 as 4 out of 6 crowns. In her review, she praised the album as a successful step towards a more adult rap by the artist, even if Sido would lack the “earlier noticeable hunger” and summed up the overall picture of Sido's work that “if he sketches loving outsider portraits in stanzas, then He succeeds in this as aptly as otherwise only Marteria or Dilemma . ”However, the album's title Fühl dich frei and the guest contribution by Marius Müller-Westernhagen,“ whose stadium pathos drowns a complete song over 32nd hi-hats ”, were rated negatively .

The e-zine laut.de awarded Sidos 30-11-80 3 out of 5 possible stars, highlighted Sidos in particular as “an unnaturally pronounced feeling for catchy hooks by German standards” and described the album as a “logical consequence of its development”, criticized but especially on a textual level several "sometimes blatant blemishes". The title work and the 30-11-80, which is attractive because of the “unusual constellation of the protagonists”, are referred to as highlights of the album. On the other hand, one of these stones is identified as the low point of the album : "Sido's calm narrative voice, with which one simply does not want to befriend, and Mark Forster's sappy hook straight out of the fuckin 'dungeons of ZDF Fernsehgarten literally beg for a skip."
