Royal Bunker is a collaboration album by German rappers Kool Savas and Sido . The album was released on September 29, 2017 on the major label Universal Urban .
background
At the Splash! Festival 2017 , which took place from July 6th to 9th in Ferropolis , was Sido’s last appearance on the main stage. After Sido initially disappeared backstage, he came back with Kool Savas . The song Royal Bunker , which is also the title of the album, was then introduced by Sido and Savas. When the joint appearance was over, both rappers disappeared behind the main stage. A black banner fell announcing the release date.
According to an interview, the idea of a collaboration album came from Erfan Bolourchi, who is known as the manager of Ufo361 and arrest warrant .
The cover and title list were released in mid-August. The rappers Marteria and Lakmann One as well as the Spanish singer-songwriter Nico Santos are featured on the album with guest contributions.
Namesake
In terms of content, the album draws parallels to the Berlin independent label Royal Bunker , which - with interruptions - existed from 1997 to 2009. In a cellar pub in the Mittenwalderstraße in Berlin's Kreuzberg district every Sunday came at 19 o'clock many rappers to open mic - Session on. The style of music was mainly shaped by battle rap . In its early days, the label had a significant influence on the later development of the Berlin rapeseed scene.
Both Sido and Kool Savas (via Masters of Rap ) started their careers with the label. Both met in this place for the first time in 1998.
Cover design
A great white shark can be seen on the album cover .

reception
The reviewer Ayke Süthoff from the online magazine Musikexpress awards 4.5 out of 6 possible stars in the overall rating. The album is "better than anything that Savas and Sido have released solo in recent years." It is about "two aging rap stars who reminisce about their beginnings ."
Robin Schmidt from the Laut.de e-zine awards 4 out of 5 stars: The sound image is "largely relaxed" and "kept reduced" . The album concentrates "on the essence of two trailblazers in German rap history, whose journey is far from over" .
For Lukas Päckert from MZEE.com, on the other hand, " the project sounds a bit too loveless and unspectacular ".
In 2018, the album received a gold record for more than 100,000 units sold in Germany .
