history

Started as a music streaming service

Ampya was a music streaming service based on the freemium principle , with according to its own information over 20,000,000 songs and more than 57,000 music videos, which could be used via web browsers and apps for the iOS and Android mobile platforms. The Ampya streaming service was operated by Magic Internet Musik GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of ProSiebenSat.1 Media, which also operated the Internet video portal MyVideo.

The development of the streaming media service began at the end of 2011. On June 10, 2013, Ampya started its service.

The basic structure was a streaming player component and the areas My Music , Discover , Radio and Settings. In addition, Ampya displayed pieces of music comparable to the title currently being played, from which the user could choose. It was also possible for users to create personal playlists, also known as playlists or mixtapes, and then share them with others via social networks. In addition to free and paid content and functions for personalization, the offer also included an editorially managed music portal.

In September and October 2013 Ampya entered into collaborations with Xavier Naidoo and Lady Gaga in order to be able to provide publications and interviews in advance. From October 17, 2013, the Bild newspaper integrated Ampya under the brand BILD Music as a (paid) music streaming service on its website. In December of the same year there was also a cooperation with the mobile operator Vodafone ; Ampya's streaming offer could be booked as a package to an existing mobile tariff and users received 500 megabytes of additional data volume.

At the Echo Awards 2014, Ampya determined the winner in the category “Best National Video”.

On June 10, 2014 ProSiebenSat.1 Media announced the sale of the streaming service to Deezer . As part of the sale, the cooperation with Vodafone was also transferred to Deezer.

Continuation as a music portal

After the streaming media business was sold to Deezer, Ampya was converted into an editorially managed Internet music portal that provided music news about album releases, stars and tours as well as reviews and interviews. Single charts were also made available:

  • German single charts
  • British Singles Chart
  • American singles chart

During its time as a streaming service, the portal also provided internal charts under the heading "Most heard" from the fields of albums, songs and videos.

The 57,000 music videos from the previous streaming offer were still made available via Ampya.

Takeover and merger with Putpat TV

TVRL GmbH & Co. KG, founded in 2008, developed a streaming media service with Putpat, which initially made over 40,000 music videos available from large studios and smaller independent labels. In addition to classical music videos, Putpat also broadcast live concerts and interviews with selected artists. The offer was made available via web browser, mobile apps and smart TV devices.

A special feature of the offer was the so-called veequalizer , with which users could put together their own program. Besides Putpat, other trademarks of TVRL also included i-do tv and Televised-Revolution. The marketing was carried out by Seven One Media GmbH.

In May 2015, TVRL GmbH was taken over by ProSiebenSat.1 Media and Putpat TV was transferred to Ampya; Putpat's former website was passed on to Ampya until it was finally discontinued.
