Nazar (born September 20, 1984 in Tehran , Iran ; real name Ardalan Afshar ) is an Austrian rapper and music video director of Iranian descent from Vienna .

Life

The musician, who was born in Tehran, grew up in Vienna . His father died as a soldier in the First Gulf War , whereupon his mother fled to Austria with him and his brother . Nazar spent his youth in the Favoriten district of Vienna , where at that time there were often clashes with neo-Nazis. In 2006 Nazar started his career as a rapper. He was discovered by the Assphalt Muzik label at a gig near Stuttgart . In 2007, Nazar released several songs on the Internet, which quickly spread beyond the country's borders.

In June 2008 he was dropped on charges of robbery . Nazar's lawyer stated that his client had only drawn a pistol in the dispute and thus hit and threatened the opponent.

His first official single Streetfighter Part 2 was the harbinger for the upcoming long player. On June 27, 2008, his first studio album Kinder des Himmels was released . The video for the promo song Kinder des Himmels was previously shown for the first time on June 10, 2008 on the German broadcaster MTV in the program Total Request Live and also reached number 1 in the charts. With the third video presidential election (with Summer Cem ), which was released in 2009, Nazar stayed at number 1 on the MTV charts for nine weeks, which made him one of the most famous rappers in Austria. He also received the Golden Penguin in the Austro Star of the Year category .

On March 12, 2010 Nazar released the album Artkore with RAF Camora .

After Nazar announced in the spring of 2010 that he would retire from the music business, he released the song Meine Stadt , which he recorded with Chakuza , RAF Camora and Kamp , in the following late summer . On September 5, 2010 Nazar gave a free concert with these collaboration partners, which Peko Baxant helped initiate - the track Meine Stadt is also part of the SPÖ Vienna campaign Ich bin Wien . According to his own statements, Nazar is SPÖ sympathizer and FPÖ opponent. In some songs he insulted the FPÖ chairman Heinz-Christian Strache , whereupon FPÖ functionaries described him as a “terror rapper” and “Islamist rapper”.

On May 6, 2011, Arman T. Riahi's documentary Schwarzkopf , which deals with young people from Vienna with a migration background, was released in Austrian cinemas. Nazar took on the lead role in the semi-biographical strip. On May 13, 2011 the album Fakker was released , which was again co-produced by Raf Camora. The album reached number 6 in the Austrian charts, which was also attributed to Nazar's increased popularity after Schwarzkopf . From December 2011 Nazar was a coach at the documentary soap Blockstars - Sido makes band on ORF one .

In mid-2012, Afshar announced on Facebook that he and his long-time friend RAF Camora would from now on go their separate ways.

On September 7, 2012, Nazar released his fourth solo album Anarkose , with which he succeeded for the first time to enter the charts in Germany with a top 10 position.

In May 2013, Nazar won an Amadeus Award for the first time . A few months later he announced on his Facebook page that he was already working on a new album, which would be released in 2014, called Camouflage .

On April 16, 2014 it was announced that Nazar had signed a contract with Universal Music Austria, which would publish the album Camouflage together with Wolfpack Entertainment as a partner for Germany. Camouflage is produced by Thomas Rabitsch , among others , who has already worked with Falco and other well-known Austrian musicians.

His video for the song On some days, was in 2014 awarded the Amadeus Award. He received his second award the following year in the Hip Hop / Urban category .

In 2015 Nazar was present as a juror in the preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest , with a provocative statement about FPÖ club chairman Heinz-Christian Strache and as an advertising face for Austrian football in the media.

On May 13, 2016, Nazar released the album Irreversibel , with which he, according to his own statements, tried something different. It already achieved gold status in Austria on May 18th.

Nazar provided the title song for the feature film Die Hölle by director Stefan Ruzowitzky , which was released in early 2017 . In April he was honored for the second time in the HipHop / Urban category and for the fourth time overall at the Amadeus Awards .
