content

“Kogong, kogong, it wants to go through the concrete.
I always want to loop like an old Katy Perry song in my head.
Kogong, kogong, telegram did not arrive.
I'm fucking Yoko Ono, my heart is Paul and John.
Kogong, kogong, kogong, kogong, I don't want to hear anything and hit me on the chest like King Kong.
All the noise in vain, kogong, kogong. "

- Refrain, original excerpt

The lyrics to Kogong are written in German. The term "Kogong" is meant to reflect the sound of a heartbeat. It is what the heart wants to say but cannot be heard. The term "Kogong" was already used in the US dance film Dirty Dancing . According to Forster, he did not know this and only found out about it when he played the piece to friends and colleagues. The piece was written by Mark Cwiertnia (Mark Forster) and Daniel Nitt, together with Ralf Christian Mayer, the two were also responsible for the creation of the compositions. Musically, the song moves in the area of pop music . The tempo is 130 beats per minute . The song is built on two stanzas, a refrain between the two stanzas, a bridge after the second chorus and an outro after the third chorus. The refrain is made up of paired rhymes . In this Forster refers to the musicians John Lennon , Paul McCartney , Yoko Ono and Katy Perry as well as to the fictional monkey creature King Kong .

In a press release, Forster described the content of Kogong with the following words: Kogong is the sound that the heart makes when you listen carefully. The song was about small and big things that his heart had told him and that he somehow couldn't hear. He very much hope that he will be able to listen to it more in the future, maybe this song will be his beginning.

Music video

The music video for Kogong was filmed on September 19, 2017 in Reykjavík and the surrounding Icelandic highlands and premiered on October 6, 2017 on YouTube . It starts with some impressions of the landscape of Iceland before Forster can be seen, who is preparing for a hike in a hotel room . Together with a few other hikers, he takes a bus out of the city and into the country. There he begins his tour. On the first evening he spends the night in a hiking hut. He spends the second evening in a tent. During the third day, Forster kinks his foot in the middle of nowhere. He tries unsuccessfully to call for help on his cell phone. After a short while he limps on until he meets a street on which a car comes towards him, the driver of which takes him back to town. Towards the end of the video, scenes of Forster back from the hotel room and shots of him climbing a mountain and spreading his arms towards the sky alternate. The video ends with Forster, who sits lonely on the edge of his bed in the hotel room with his back to the camera and takes off his hat. The total length of the video is 3:42 minutes. Directed again and again Kim Frank . To date, the music video has over 14 million views on YouTube (as of March 2018).
