Like a Lion ( German like a lion ) is a song of the German Pop , singer Mark Forster , in cooperation with the originating also from Germany reggae - musician Gentleman .
Creation and artwork
The song was written jointly by Mark Cwiertnia (Mark Forster), Alexander Knolle, Ralf Christian Mayer , Daniel Nitt and Tilmann Otto (Gentleman). Mayer was also involved in mixing, recording and production. The production took place in cooperation with Cwiertnia and Nitt. With the latter he also acted together as sound engineer. The mastering took place under the direction of Robin Schmidt. Like a Lion was released under the Four Music label and distributed by Sony / ATV Music Publishing .
On the cover of the single only the artist name and the song title are shown. The background is black. In the upper third are the names of the two performers in green, below is the song title in orange in the remaining two thirds of the cover image.
Publication and promotion
The first release of Like a Lion done as a single download on April 13, 2018. A week later, the song appeared in a Polish version as a single download on April 20, 2018 made To the song to promote, among other common live performances in prime time during the Echo Awards 2018 and on the Mark Forster theme evening in the fifth season of Sing my song - The exchange concert . The collaboration between Mark Forster and Gentleman emerges from the joint participation in the fourth season of Sing my song - The exchange concert . During the time together in South Africa , the two felt immediate sympathy for each other, which resulted in a friendship. Forster himself stated that he has been a "huge" gentleman fan since childhood and that if one of his long-awaited dreams would come true if they were recorded together. Forster had the idea for this in South Africa. There he met a road worker whom he had asked: “How are you?” And he then replied “Strong like a lion, strong like a lion!” ( English for 'Strong as a lion, strong as a lion!') . Then he knew straight away that he had to make something of the sentence. When he sang the line himself, it would have sounded "kind of stupid". That's why he asked the “best guest” anyone could imagine for the refrain: a gentleman. Gentleman was immediately enthusiastic: “Mark and I were room neighbors during the Sing-my-Song recordings in South Africa, we immediately got on really well and musically exchanged ideas. Shortly afterwards he sent me the idea for Like a Lion and asked if I could do something with it. And I felt that thing right away! I think the song is totally magical, it has everything a good song needs. ”The collaboration was“ enormously ”inspiring for Gentleman. It is a gift when you meet someone like Forster, from whom you can learn a lot musically and who broadens your horizons. And their voices sound great.
For Gentleman it is already the second collaboration with one of his sing-my-song colleagues. On May 19, 2017, during the current season of the music format, a guest article appeared on Michael Patrick Kelly's fourth studio album iD . Kelly and Gentleman recorded the song of the same name, iD, together. On July 14, 2017, the piece was also released as a promo single and then celebrated chart successes in Germany and Switzerland.

At the same time as the single was released, initially only an "Official Audio Video" was published on Forster's YouTube channel. This only shows the cover picture, which is underlined with the title. The official music video was shot in the Hamburg district of St. Pauli and celebrated its premiere on May 25, 2018 on YouTube . Three different stories are presented in the music video. The main role is the story of a three-person group - consisting of Stefanie Horn, Viktoria Kirst and Aaron Amankwaaa - who were accompanied during the day during a poster campaign. You can see the three printing posters in the “Schanzenblitz” copy shop, shopping in the hardware store and actually posting posters at two different locations. At the end, the three dance in front of the poster on which two roaring lions roar at each other under the heading "Lion" ( German lion ). The paste-up comes from Saskia Stoltze. In between, alternating scenes from two other stories can be seen. On the one hand you see Forster in the Molotow , who celebrates there with dancers. On the other hand, you can see Forster and Gentleman singing the song separately or together in different natural settings. The total length of the video is 3:08 minutes. As with all music videos in which Forster has acted as the lead singer since 2014, Kim Frank has directed again and again . The piece was also able to place itself in the German iTunes daily evaluations for several days , with Like a Lion reaching the highest listing with position two on the day of its publication.
