Uwe Wegener

Uwe Wegener (born August 10, 1941 in Halberstadt ) is a German agricultural and forestry scientist and nature conservationist.

Life

After attending school in Halberstadt, he studied agricultural science from 1960 to 1966 and graduated with a degree in agricultural engineering. He then worked until 1973 as a research group leader in the Harz branch of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg . His professional focus was on drinking water and landscape protection in the Harz Mountains and its foreland as well as the use and protection of mountain meadows . Wegener worked as a nature conservation worker in the Halberstadt district at an early stage . In 1973 he was employed full-time for nature conservation as a research assistant at the Institute for Landscape Research and Nature Conservation in Halle (Saale) and Potsdam . In 1982 Wegener moved to the forestry company Wernigerode as nature conservation officer . From 1990 he was the construction manager of the Hochharz National Park in Saxony-Anhalt , whose scientific director he became the following year. In 2004 he took over the research project management in the now transnational Harz National Park . Wegener retired in 2006 at the age of 65.
