The Studio Berlin-Adlershof GmbH is a Atelierbetriebs- and television production company on location in Berlin-Adlershof . Today it uses part of the former facilities and buildings of the broadcasting center of the German television station (DFF).

History of the location & the company Studio Berlin Adlershof (SBA)

1950-1991

After the founding of the GDR , they were looking for a suitable site as a location for a television to be founded. The choice fell on an unused site near the former Berlin-Johannisthal airfield . On June 11, 1950, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Berlin TV Center (FZ), which was built according to plans by Wolfgang Wunsch. On December 20, 1951, the first attempts at sending and receiving began. A good year later, on December 21, 1952, the television center began regular programming with an official test program. On January 2, 1956, this test program was ended and from January 3, 1956, the broadcast of a regular program under the name Deutscher Fernsehfunk began .

In the following years, the broadcasting center was gradually expanded and the weekly broadcasting time extended. On October 3, 1969, a second television program began to be broadcast. On the same day color television in the system ( Secam ) was introduced in the GDR. In 1972 the DFF is renamed to the GDR television . The broadcasting center in Berlin-Adlershof is thus the main location for the production and broadcast of two full television programs with journalism, news, entertainment, shows, music, feature films, television plays, children's television, educational programs and sports reporting . The address of the transmitter was Rudower Chaussee 3, 1199 Berlin .

In the course of the change , the television of the GDR was renamed back to German television on March 12, 1990 . On December 31, 1991, the DFF ceased broadcasting in Adlershof in accordance with Article 36 of the Unification Treaty.

1992-2005

On the basis of the unification agreement, the site, the buildings and the technical facilities were jointly owned by the five new federal states and the state of Berlin. These countries tried to market the site jointly, the location was initially managed in trust. After the end of the DFF, a number of private companies settled on the area, most of which are directly or indirectly active as suppliers of television programs. In some cases, departments and editorial offices of the DFF were converted into companies that were initially based in Adlershof. For example the television ballet , Elf 99 or the DFF's dubbing studio.

On January 1st, 1992 the German Broadcasting Archive (DRA) took over the trustee administration of the Rundfunkarchive Ost , the former archives of radio and television in the GDR. On January 1, 1994, the Rundfunkarchive Ost became part of the DRA as a Berlin location. In the same year the holdings of the radio of the GDR (previously in the Funkhaus Nalepastraße ) and television of the GDR (already in Adlershof) are brought together at the Berlin-Adlershof location. In June 1998 the SFB announced that it would not buy the DRA building in Adlershof. The DRA then decided to move to a new building on the ORB site in Potsdam. In 2000, the company moved to the new building.

In 1992 a wide range of production companies and media service providers established themselves and made use of the available capacities. In 1993 Studio Hamburg founded the Studio Berlin subsidiary in Berlin-Adlershof. The purchase of a 52,000 m² plot of land, including the studio building “A – F” and other ancillary buildings as well as open space, takes place in 1998. HSB is renamed Berlin-Brandenburg Media GmbH and Studio Berlin Atelier (SBA) GmbH is founded. In 2000, Studio Berlin Mobil (SBM) GmbH was founded as a subsidiary of SBA and the studio “G” (2,400 m²) was put into operation.

2002 were digital broadcast vans "E5" commissioned and merged with the parent company SBM SBA. The renaming of the Studio Berlin Atelier to “Studio Berlin Adlershof” took place in 2003. With the completion of the lightweight construction hall “L” (1,400 m²) for outdoor shooting and decoration, in 2004 the studio operation in the Babelsberg TV center was also taken over.

2006-2009

In 2006, the commissioning of made HDTV - OB van "E6" and the completion of the studio "K" (1,800 meters).

On July 9 of that year SBA transferred, with the built specially for the tournament HDTV - OB van "E6" world the final of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany . A year later a new corporate design is used .

In the summer of 2008, Studio Berlin Adlershof was significantly involved in the TV broadcast for the 13th European Football Championship . SBA created the World Feed Signal for a total of 12 games (including the final) from the EM stadiums in Salzburg and Vienna.

In September 2009 the second large studio, the studio "H" (2,400 m²) in Adlershof was completed. The studio went into operation on September 13th with the program Das Fernsehduell Merkel - Steinmeier .

2010-2011

In 2010, Studio Berlin Adlershof broadcast the World Feed of the opening and the final of the 2010 World Cup in Johannesburg , South Africa . During the year, the SBA purchased the HDTV - OB van "U1" and has since been on a fleet of four HDTV -Übertragungswagen.

In 2011, Studio Berlin Adlershof broadcast the 6th Women's World Cup in Germany from the stadiums in Frankfurt am Main , Augsburg , Sinsheim and Leverkusen . In addition, the SBA built a high-definition television control room at the Berlin Gasometer for the weekly transmission of the Günther Jauch talk show .

2012

With four HDTV - OB van , the Studio Berlin Adlershof was once again instrumental in the creation of the world feed signal for the final round of the 14th European Football Championship the men's 2,012 involved. This time, the SBA broadcast nine games from the European Championship stadiums in Warsaw and Gdansk .

2013

For the eighth time in a row, Studio Berlin Adlershof GmbH broadcast the live gala for the 48th awarding of Hörzu's Golden Camera .

An absolute highlight this year was the TV duel, which has been staged and broadcast live at Studio Berlin in Adlershof since 2002.

2014-2018

In 2014, Studio Berlin broadcast the World Feed of all the games of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil from the stadiums in Salvador , Belo Horizonte and Brasilia .

In 2016, the Federal Cartel Office imposed a fine of 3.1 million euros on Studio Berlin and its competitor Bavaria Studios & Production Services GmbH for illegal agreements. The background to this was participation in an exchange of information that is illegal under antitrust law. The investigations were triggered by MMC Studios Köln GmbH, which was also involved in the illegal exchange of information. The Cartel Office investigated the three involved studio operators in detail on the basis of regular meetings of the responsible company representatives in the period between September 2011 and December 2014. Specifically, information about prices, offer behavior and offer content was supposed to be exchanged.

On February 22, 2018, the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest, Our Song for Lisbon, took place here. The preliminary round of Our Song for Israel also took place here in 2019 .
