Small versus big - the unbelievable duel is a family game show that has been broadcast on the first since 2011 and on ORF eins since March 2017 . The format is produced by i & u TV . Kai Pflaume acts as host and moderator .

Gameplay

Basics

Children between five and 14 years of age who have special abilities and talents compete in various duels against celebrities. The children can come from any country in the world, they or their parents apply to the editorial team beforehand. Talented children from the USA, India, Japan and France have already been seen. After the bets on offer, the television editorial team looks for suitable opponents and arranges the duel for the studio stage. There are usually eight to ten duels per broadcast.

The prominent personalities are predominantly actors , musicians or professional athletes or, rarely, experts. Plum begins every duel with the words "Small versus large - let's go!"

The children are guaranteed to receive a gift for their great achievements, regardless of whether they win their duel or not. Kai Pflaume sometimes visits the talented children in preparation and uses this opportunity to determine their wishes.

Before the broadcast, an intro is recorded with the children, which should reflect the child's achievements and interests. It's up to 7 minutes long. Plum speaks a text in the background. At the end of this intro there is always a battle line from the talented child, which almost always contains a play on words.

The prominent participants in the show predict the outcome of the duels without their own participation and thus earn points. In their own duels, they automatically bet on themselves. The one who finally gets the most points wins and donates the prize money of 30,000  euros to a charitable cause of his own choosing. In some cases there is a tie with most points; in this case, the winnings will be divided among the winning celebrities for their respective donations.

The spectator duel

From the 6th edition onwards, one child per edition presented itself with special skills. For this duel, viewers aged 21 and over were asked to compete against this child. After a successful casting, an opponent was finally found for the following television edition. If the adult opponent won this duel, he received 8,000 euros for himself. If, on the other hand, the child won, each child received 1,000 euros from the current TV edition for the class fund (or kindergarten group fund), but not the new viewer duel child.

The bet

From the 21st edition there was a modified form of the earlier spectator duel. A child with special skills presented a bet. As in the other duels, the celebrities predicted the outcome of the bet. If the child won the bet, a prominent professional was sought who competed against the child in the next show.

Small against bird

Since the 35th edition there has been the section “Small versus Bird”. One child competes against the actor Jürgen Vogel . As in the other duels, the celebrities bet on the outcome, which is included in the overall result.

On April 10, 2020, the first video was published on the YouTube channel von Klein gegen Groß .

Small versus large is recorded in the Berlin Adlershof studio . Initially, the show went on air once or twice a year at irregular intervals. In 2013, the transmission frequency was increased to up to five issues per year. One of the directors is Frank Hof .

The ORF has been co-producing the game show since mid-March 2017 . As a result, talented children from Austria increasingly appear on the show.
