Rüdiger Gamm (born July 10, 1971 in Welzheim , Baden-Württemberg ) is a German memory and mental trainer .

Life

Gamm spent his youth in the Alfdorf district of Rienharz . During his school days, math was his problem subject. After graduating from secondary school , Gamm trained as an insurance salesman . After reading a math book, he discovered his skills and first learned the square numbers between 1 and 99 by heart. More potencies and memorized numerical products were added and after a week he realized that he could calculate faster in his head than a mathematician who appeared on the radio. Gamm was 21 at the time.

Since 2005 he has been teaching mathematical mental training in various schools. He also appeared in international competitions and on television, for example in 1994 in Wetten, dass ..? and in 2006 in the episode memory giants in the television documentary Expedition into the brain and in the Canadian television documentary The Real Superhumans and the Quest for the Future Fantastic . On October 22nd, 2007 he set an (unofficial) world record in Isny im Allgäu . He had the audience call out any two digits (first a “9” and then an “8”) and was able to calculate the hundredth power of the number 98 without errors. In February 2008 his first book Train your brain was published by Heyne-Verlag . The secrets of success of a memory artist that he wrote together with his partner Alexandra Ehlert. In 2008 he appeared on the rbb television program Dickes B. moderated by Jörg Thadeusz and on the radio program SWR 2 Zeitgenossen.

On April 27, 2013 he won the title “ Germany's super brain ” in the ZDF broadcast of the same name .

Gamm gives seminars as a mental trainer .

Skills

His extraordinary achievements are mainly in the area of numbers. This is not just about arithmetic in the traditional sense, but also about keeping results with large amounts of numbers that can be "called up" if necessary - even after many years. For most of his abilities he counts on memorized combinations of numbers.

Gamm does not have any disabilities or limitations such as autism or other brain dysfunction. After an investigation, Allan Snyder , an expert on gifted islands , found that Rüdiger Gamm is not a savant . He has the ability to adapt his calculation algorithms to new problems. But savants act more intuitively and do not master this. In various scientific studies, however, an enlargement of the brain lobes and a strongly thickened corpus callosum have been found. In addition, it has also been proven that he used episodic memory for his calculations.
