Juliane Wurm (born December 15, 1990 in Halle (Saale) ) is a German sport climber .

Career

At the age of 16 Juliane Wurm became the youngest German champion in climbing. The climber was active in all three disciplines of lead , speed and bouldering and achieved her greatest successes in bouldering. Since 2007 Wurm started for the DAV section Wuppertal. She was able to win nineteen German championships and is the most successful German competitive climber ahead of Marietta Uhden .

At the 2014 World Climbing Championships in Munich, Juliane Wurm became world champion in the bouldering discipline . In 2015 she became European champion in bouldering in Innsbruck.

Juliane Wurm started climbing in Dortmund at the age of 10 and took part in her first national competition in 2003. From 2004 to 2008 she was a member of the German national youth team and won the European youth series in 2005 and 2007. In 2008 she became junior vice world champion in Sydney, Australia. After switching to the adult category, Juliane Wurm took part in international lead competitions and finally switched to bouldering. Here she achieved multiple podium placements at World Cups, became Vice European Champion in 2010 and won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Arco in 2011. In 2013 she won her first World Cup in Innsbruck.

In 2011, the American climbing icon Lynn Hill shot the documentary Outside the Box , in which she shares her experiences as a first-generation female climbing star with two young European top climbers Juliane Wurm and Anna Stöhr while climbing cracks at Castleton Tower in Utah.

She has been studying medicine at the University of Witten / Herdecke since 2012 and lives in Cologne.

On July 14, 2015, Juliane Wurm announced her retirement from competitive climbing at the end of the season via Facebook. She wants to finish her studies, do more rock climbing and can imagine becoming a young trainer. In the following week she won the German bouldering championship for the last time.
