Tim Bendzko (born April 9, 1985 in East Berlin ) is a German singer-songwriter . He achieved national fame in 2011 with his song Only Briefly Save the World and as the winner of the Bundesvision Song Contest .

life and work

Tim Bendzko was born in Berlin in 1985 and grew up in the Köpenick district . He attended a sports high school and began to be particularly interested in football. At 1. FC Union Berlin, he moved up to the B youth . According to his own statement, he ended his career because the focus was primarily on performance and not on having fun with football. At the age of 11 or 12 he decided to take guitar lessons, and at 16 he was writing his own pieces. After graduating from high school , he began studying Protestant theology and non-Christian religions at the Free University of Berlin , which he finished after five semesters without a degree. After that he worked temporarily as an auctioneer in the car trade.

In 2009 Tim Bendzko applied for the talent competition Sons Wanted by the Sons of Mannheim and won the place as Xavier Naidoo's counterpart . Together with Mannheim's sons , he played in the Waldbühne in Berlin in front of 20,000 spectators in 2009 , and a little later he received a record deal with Sony Music Entertainment . His musical breakthrough came in June 2011 with his debut album If Words Were My Language , which entered the German charts at number four. The single Just Briefly Save the World stayed in the charts for 47 weeks and was later awarded platinum status, as did the album.

Various other concerts followed in 2013, including again in the Berlin Waldbühne. The event was the start of his second tour I don't stand still anymore , which in spring 2014 led through Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Luxembourg.

In December 2013 he expanded his second album by twelve more songs and released this as a so-called limited re-edition . It contained the first English-language piece by Tim Bendzko, Give A Little , as well as contributions from other artists, for example Xavas . The first single Under the Skin is a duet with Cassandra Steen . Tim Bendzko was alongside Henning Wehland and Lena Meyer-Landrut a juror at The Voice Kids . In 2013 he was part of the Liadl initiative for the Leiberl of FC Bayern Munich and Adidas , as part of which a new club anthem was designed. Tim Bendzko says he is a fan of the club, but also a supporter of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim .

On October 21, 2016, his third album Immer noch Mensch was released .

In February 2017 he was a juror at Unser Song 2017 together with Florian Silbereisen and Lena Meyer-Landrut . He was also a candidate for Schlag den Star and competed against Stefan Kretzschmar . In December 2018, Bendzko was part of the Night of the Proms concert tour in Germany and Luxembourg alongside Bryan Ferry , Milow and the Pointer Sisters .

On July 19, 2019, Bendzko released Hoch, the first single from his upcoming fourth studio album, Filter . Around two months later, on September 13, 2019, the second pre-release from the album Filter , which was released on October 18 , 2019, followed with Just because of you .

Bendzko has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the DFL Foundation since 2019 .

On August 22, 2020, Tim Bendzko took part in the Restart-19 study at the Martin Luther University Halle with 1,400 test subjects . In the Arena Leipzig , three scenarios were run through in an experiment; data was collected systematically. The study directors hope to be able to use this data to calculate the risk of a corona outbreak at major events. Originally, 4200 test persons were supposed to take part in the “Corona concert”.
