Great time is a song by German pop-rock - band in July . The piece is the second single from her debut album Es ist Juli and the winner of the Bundesvision Song Contest 2005 .
Creation and artwork
The song was written by Jonas Pfetzing and Simon Triebel . In October 2002, a first demo recording was the only recently completed track with producer Michael Gerlach in Horus Sound Studio by Frank Bornemann in Hannover . After the band had signed their record deal with Universal in August 2003 , Geile Zeit initially recorded one of two songs (besides Why ) with producers Andreas Herbig and Franz Plasa in the H.OME studios in Hamburg . The other recordings for the album Es ist Juli , however, were made later in the Mohrmann studio in Bochum .
The single was released on the Universal label Polydor - Island . On the black and white held cover the maxi-single - alongside artist name and song title - a band photo shown from July. Benjamin Wolf took the photography for the cover photo. The recordings took place in the Hamburg Tonofen Studio, the mastering took place in the Skyline Studios in Düsseldorf .
Publication and promotion
The single was first published on November 15, 2004 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland . Due to the continued charter success of Perfekte Welle , the publication had previously been postponed several times. In addition to the radio version , the maxi single also contains an album version, a remix version and the music video of the song, as well as the song You turn me around as the B-side .
In order to promote the single, there were, among other things, live appearances on the television shows Hape meets! and The Dome .

The lyrics to Geile Zeit are written entirely in German. The music was written jointly by Jonas Pfetzing and Simon Triebel , the text specially written by Triebel. Musically, the song moves in the field of pop-rock . The song is about someone having had a great time , but it is now ending.

Music video
The music video for Geile Zeit was shot in the Britzer Garden in Berlin. The video was cut together so that it looks like a one-shot video . The video shows typical activities that people do on a normal summer day. The total length is 3:41 minutes. Directed by Daniel Lwowski.
Bundesvision Song Contest 2005
July won the Bundesvision Song Contest 2005 for Hesse with 29 points ahead of the band Fettes Brot with the song Emanuela (130 points) for Schleswig-Holstein . During the points awarding of all 16 federal states , July set themselves apart relatively early on with a small margin from their fellow competitors. In addition to their homeland Hesse, they also got full points from North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate . This was the first edition of the Bundesvision Song Contest .
For promotional purposes, every artist shoots an election commercial for participation in the BuViSoco. In this July show the best sights of Hesse, u. a. you can see the following: Gießen , Wissmarer See and cider .

Charts
Geile Zeit reached position 19 in the single charts in Germany and stayed in the charts for 24 weeks. In the German airplay charts , the single reached the top position for two weeks . In Austria the single also reached position 19 in 22 chart weeks and in Switzerland position 32 in seven chart weeks. For July it was the second single within a year after Perfekte Welle that could be placed in all three DA-CH countries.

Cover version
On July 8, 2016, the singer and DJ Decoy and the singer and former DSDS participant Meltem released a joint cover version of Geile Zeit as a download single on Universal Music. It could not place itself in the German charts.
