Whenever it gets dark is the opening track of the album In Love , which was released on September 17th, 2010. On January 21, 2011, the song was released as the second single from the album. To promote the single, the band played the song on January 19, 2011 on TV total and on January 20, 2011 in an acoustic version on MTV Home .
The single was only released in a 2-track version and includes the single version as well as a remix version made by Robot Koch for Immer Wenn es Dunkel . In iTunes appeared with the Phon.o Remix Another Remix (4:02) of the song. For the follow-up single Süchtig , an acoustic version of Always when it gets dark (4:00) was released there in May 2011 .
Music video
The official music video for Always when it gets dark was filmed by Hagen Decker (director) and Tanja Häring (camera) for Golo Media . The video, shot completely in a studio setting, shows the band members in front of a very simple, sometimes white, sometimes black background, while objects such as leaves, photo negatives, black balloons and finally raindrops fall from the ceiling.

Charts and chart placements
In the German single charts, the title rose to number 37 on February 4, 2011, which was also its highest chart position, and remained in the charts for five weeks. In Austria and Switzerland the song did not reach the charts.
