Emanuela is a song by German hip-hop - band Fettes Brot . The piece is the first single from their fifth studio album Am Wasser built .

Creation and artwork

The song was written by the three Fettes-Brot members Boris Lauterbach, Björn Warns and Martin Vandreier; in collaboration with DJ exel. Pauly they arranged the piece too. The single was produced by Björn Beton, who was also responsible for drum programming. The piece was mastered by Sterling Sound in New York City , under the direction of Chris Gerlinger. The song was mixed by Sebi Professionell . The single was released under the music label FBS (Fettes Brot Schallplatten) and distributed by Indigo . On the black and white cover of the maxi single - in addition to artist names and song titles - the three members of Fettes Brot jumping off an edge can be seen. The cover picture was shot by Jan-Christoph Schultchen, the artwork is by Felix Schlueter.

Publication and promotion

Emanuela was first published on February 14, 2005 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland . In addition to the radio version, the maxi single includes an instrumental and remix version for Emanuela , as well as the song Schrottheimer and an instrumental for this, as the B-side . In addition to the CD release, a limited 12 "vinyl record and various promo CDs were released, all of which differ in the number and selection of their B-sides.

Due to the great demand for ring tones by Emanuela , the band agreed with the Jamba company that the piece would be made available as a ring tone. The contract prohibited Jamba from using the song for promotional purposes. The company did not adhere to it, however, and advertised in various television advertisements with the ringtone for Emanuela . Likewise, all monophonic and polyphonic ringtones that were sold were not approved by the band. She therefore published ringtones of the song for mobile phones on the first edition of Am Wasser built .

Bundesvision Song Contest 2005

To promote the song and themselves, Fettes Brot competed in the Bundesvision Song Contest 2005 for their home state Schleswig-Holstein . They finished second with 130 points and only had to admit defeat to the winners of July with their winning title Geile Zeit . From their home country Schleswig-Holstein they got the highest number of points of the evening with 12 points, they got at least six points from all other federal states . For promotional purposes, each artist shot an election commercial for participation in the Bundesvision Song Contest . In this Fettes Brot show the best sights of Schleswig-Holstein. During the live performance, Fettes Brot referred to their accompanying music video and performed with a marching band .

To date, no contribution for Schleswig-Holstein has been able to rank higher at the BSC. In contrast to the BSC, Emanuela was more successful in the single charts (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) than Geile Zeit from July and held the record as the "most successful entry in the German and Swiss single charts by placement" with top position three and 20 from 2005 to 2011. They lost this record in both countries in 2012 to Xavas , who reached position two and three in the charts with the title Look no longer back . In Austria, the single reached position one in the charts and is still the most successful entry in the charts.

content

The lyrics to Emanuela are written entirely in German with the exception of a text passage and an exclamation. It contains the English line "What goes on?" ( Engl. "What's up?") And the exclamation "No!" (Engl. "No!"). The music and the text were written jointly by the three Fettes-Brot members Boris Lauterbach, Björn Warns and Martin Vandreier. Musically, the song moves in the realm of rap and pop music . The stanzas are rapped alternately by the three Fettes-Brot members, and they sing the chorus together. The song is about a girl all boys are in love with, but none can have. The text is about a crazy / unfulfilled and romantic love. The instruments were played by Björn Beton (bass), Daniel Kramer (accordion, harmonica and organ) and Sven Waje (Spanish guitar).

“What do you know about love?
You don't know anything about love!
Your feelings tricked you again.
You consider yourself dangerous,
but you do not see the danger.
This is the story of Emanuela.

Keep your hands off Emanuela!
Keep your hands off Emanuela!

All the girls, all the boys say No !,
you will no longer be happy about your life. "

- Refrain, original excerpt

In an interview, Lauterbach stated that he was inspired to Emanuela by a vacation in Brazil . According to Warns, the single had previously been tested at a party, with the result that the title initially caused a lot of confusion. He himself found the piece too bulky, since one had to make friends with it first.

Music video

The music video for Emanuela was in Cape Town ( South Africa turned) and celebrated its premiere in February 2005. The three Fettes-Brot members can be seen as part of a marching band . This consists only of men and is led by a woman. You march through all areas of Cape Town, starting from the city center, over beaches, forests and sand dunes. The video ends in the sand dunes when a meteorite hits and hits the three Fettes-Brot members. While the three are on the ground, the train marches on. The marching band that can be seen in the music video was intended to underline the marching rhythm of the music. The uniforms that can be seen in the video are from a train from Cape Town. Directed by Christopher Häring and Daniel Warwick. The total length of the video is three minutes 29 seconds.
