Strom und Drang is the sixth studio album by the hip-hop group Fettes Brot . It was released on March 14, 2008 as the second album of their own record company FBS ( Fettes Brot Schallplatten GmbH ).

According to their own account, Fettes Brot wants to use the album - like the "young poets" of Sturm und Drang , "who got society going through what they wrote [...]" - "move people [...], [shake up] and instigate one's own thoughts ”. In addition, "Strom" should indicate that the album "worked more with electronic elements".

Bettina, please get dressed

The first release of the album Bettina, please wear something was released on February 15, 2008. The song addresses the freedom of some quiz moderators in call-in competitions on television . He is supposed to criticize the “pornography of our society” (Dokter Renz) and the “omnipresent sex terror” (Björn Beton), which manifests itself primarily through the freedom of movement in advertising .

The saddest girl in town

In the song The Saddest Girl in Town , Fettes Brot tells how people in a discotheque talk about other people and think about them. Mieze Katz from MIA. , who takes on a rap part towards the end of the song, describes the situation from the point of view of the person people are talking about in the discotheque. According to Fettes Brot, the choice fell on Mieze Katz because of the "electronic influences" in her music. They gave her a free hand in deciding how to write the text. In addition, it even brought about a change in the text of Fettes Brot, which - as Dokter Renz notes - contained "violence-glorifying vocabulary". Fettes Brot commented on the change in the text as “in retrospect, very good”.

The very first time

While working on the love song for the very first time , Dokter Renz noticed that it was going to be a duet . That is why he wrote Bernadette La Hengst , whom he did not know personally, but whose work he - as he himself says - had followed closely for many years, an email with a demo recording of the song. Bernadette was immediately taken with the song. She describes it as a “euphoric love song with a penchant for pathos, but positive pathos”.

Do you hear me?

In this song, Fettes Brot tell in three stanzas about people who have influenced and impressed them to a great extent. All three people have now died. The lines “And I remember exactly, it was just shit on TV” and “(name of the person in the verse)… do you hear me? We are terribly bored ”thematize the contradiction between the lives and deeds of the three and the current definition of heroes in the entertainment industry and society.

The first verse is about the singer Marvin Gaye and his untimely death (manslaughter by his father after an argument over Gaye's cocaine addiction). The second stanza deals with Sophie Scholl's courage to resist the German Nazi regime . With the third verse, Fettes Brot is reminiscent of a Hamburg homeless person who was known to many under the name "Herbert". He often shared the money he had begged in front of a Haspa branch in Eimsbüttel with passing children in order to make them happy.

trip

The publication of Strom und Drang was preceded in December 2007 by a club tour under the code name "Bette Frost" ( anagram for "Fettes Brot"), during which the album was presented live. As with several appearances on the tour to the previous album Am Wasser built , Fettes Brot was featured alongside DJ exel. Pauly accompanied by a seven-piece band. With this line-up, the Strom und Drang Tour followed in April and May 2008 , which was supplemented by numerous festival appearances in the summer and is to be continued in November and December.
