Stam1na is a Finnish thrash metal band from Lemi .
history
Stam1na was founded in 1996 by Antti Hyyrynen, Pekka Olkkonen and Teppo Velin under the name "Stamina". On the first three demos, which were made between 1997 and 2000, Hyyrynen, who at that time also played bass, still sings in English . As of the 2001 Vihaa demo , all texts are in Finnish . In 2002, shortly after the publication of Promo 2002, the members change the band name to "Stam1na" in order to better distinguish themselves in search engines against the stamen of the same name .
In 2004 Stam1na received a recording contract as a second band with the young label Sakara Records , which had been founded the year before by members of the band Mokoma . With the support of producers Janne Joutsenniemi and Miitri Aaltonen, the debut album Stam1na was created , which was released on March 2, 2005 and reached number 13 in the Finnish album charts during the eight-week stay. In the following months Stam1na was on tour a lot, which is why bassist Kai-Pekka Kangasmäki was accepted as a session and tour musician, who finally completed the line-up in November 2005 as a permanent member. At the Finnish Metal Awards 2005 on February 17th, 2006 they received the award as "Newcomer of the Year".
The second album Uudet kymmenen käskyä was released on May 10, 2006 and entered the Finnish album charts at number three. The album, which was highly acclaimed by critics, sold over 15,000 units as of June 12, 2008 and was awarded the Emma in the category “Best Metal Album” and a gold record . The single Likainen parketti, which was extracted from it, reached number 1 in the single charts.
In November 2006 the band toured Finland together with Mokoma and Rytmihäiriö . The DVD Sakara Tour 2006 , which was released in May 2007, was recorded at Nosturi in Helsinki , Teatria in Oulu and Rytmikorjaamo in Seinäjoki . Then they started working on their third album. In October the band accompanied their Finnish colleagues from Apocalyptica and Sturm und Drang on the World Collides tour through the Baltic States and Germany.
Raja , the third album, was released on February 13, 2008 and immediately hit number 1 on the Finnish album charts. At the Finnish Metal Awards 2008 in February 2009, Raja received the award for the best album of the year and the award for the best cover artwork. In addition, Stam1na was voted best band of the year and Antti Hyyrynen was voted best singer of the year.
On February 10, 2010, Stam1na released the fourth studio album Viimeinen Atlantis . It is available on vinyl and in book form, among other things, with the book containing a photo reportage of the recording work and a comic, which has been gradually revealed since December 9, 2009 on the viimeinenatlantis.fi website, which was specially created for the album. Like Raja , Viimeinen Atlantis immediately rose to number 1 in the Finnish album charts, beating the new album by the internationally much better known band HIM , and selling enough copies for a gold record in the first week after its release.
At the beginning of November 2010, at the suggestion of many fans, Stam1na released the compilation Vanhaa paskaa , which contains their self-published , long out-of-print demos and promos from 1997 to 2008 as well as some songs recorded for earlier albums. The compilation reached number 2 on the Finnish album charts. Afterwards the band went on the Sakara Tour 2010 together with their label colleagues Mokoma, Rytmihäiriö and FM2000 . The youngest label addition Teräsbetoni is also represented at two appearances .
The fifth studio album, Nocebo , was released on February 8, 2012 and, like its predecessor, received a gold record in the week of its release.
