If words were my language is the debut album of the German musician Tim Bendzko . It was released on June 17, 2011 via Sony Music Entertainment .
History of origin
After Tim Bendzko had won a talent competition of the Sons of Mannheim , he was allowed to perform in front of 20,000 people on the Berlin Waldbühne in 2009 . The performance gave him a record deal with Sony Music and was able to devote himself entirely to music. He focused on the song material for his debut album . In particular, the lyrics to his music are the most important thing for him. The songwriting process is also reflected in the album title. In an interview with WDR 2 , he describes how he came up with the album title:
“Well, because I'm kind of struggling for words all the time. So right now. But also when writing songs, I kind of think about the text the whole time, only have the lines in my head that I try to tinker back and forth and to deal with words. And I mostly fail to find the right ones. "
The album was produced by Swen Meyer (among other things, worked as a producer for Kettcar and Tomte ). Bendzko himself wrote eight of the twelve songs on the album, David Vogt wrote three more and Aiko Rohd wrote another.

Song info
The idea of the single only to save the world for a short time came to Bendzko through family experiences. The title is a phrase his stepfather used regularly when Bendzko's mother asked him for a favor. It was meant to be briefly busy at the PC.
Music genre
The singer-songwriter Tim Bendzko wrote his songs in a jazzy pop style. His singing can be found in soul . His musical style is compared with Xavier Naidoo and Laith Al-Deen , but also Roger Cicero , Max Mutzke and Annett Louisan . Bendzko renounces overloaded production and tries to put text and music in the foreground. Although he uses common string arrangements in this style, he uses them rather cautiously. The lyrics on the album are primarily of a personal nature and describe things they have experienced themselves and are occasionally humorous.

criticism
WDR2 author Andreas Zimmer describes Tim Bendzko as one of “the hopes of German songwriters who know how to impress with their high quality musically and lyrically. And by being down-to-earth. ”The online portal Laut.de (author: Kai Butterweck) emphasized the textual qualities of the debut album and stated that the album was“ coherent and homogeneous ”.
