musicline.de is a German online music service , the entire music - database in Hamburg resident PHONONET maps GmbH. The portal was launched in 2001 and today, according to its own statements, comprises around four million entries from around 200,000 artists. The portal was presented at popkomm in 2001 . At that time, it contained data on around 150,000 music albums and videos, and excerpts from around 1.7 million pieces of music were available for free listening. At the start, 121 record companies were involved in the offer. Shortly after the start, a Swiss company obtained an injunction against the operator Phononet for possible violation of naming rights. The order was revoked at the end of August 2001. In 2002, the musicline.de database was integrated into MSN , and in 2003 into AOL's online music offering .

In 2008, the platform was the first to take part in tests of melody recognition software developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology in Ilmenau .

Content

Audio samples can be downloaded in WMA and MP3 format for almost all pieces . Further functions are the historical chart tracking of the products, detailed artist biographies and a genre dictionary. Extended search functions ( EAN , publication, record label or genre etc.) and a melody search are also possible. The chart search for the single charts is possible from the 27th calendar week 1959, the longplay charts can be accessed from the 3rd calendar week 1992. Musicline.de also provides a widget in the form of a compact search mask with which search queries can also be started outside of the Internet browser.

Musicline.de has partnerships with musicload , hekticket and jpc . The site offers regular specials and competitions e.g. B. to new releases.

In 2002 musicline.de was honored with the international MidemNet Award for "Best Service" in Cannes.
