The first season of the German singing talent show The Voice of Germany was broadcast on television from November 24, 2011 to February 10, 2012, with six episodes being broadcast on ProSieben and eleven episodes on Sat.1 . The first season was moderated by Stefan Gödde and backstage by Doris Golpashin . The jury consisted of the pop musician Nena , the soul singer Xavier Naidoo , the singer and guitarist Rea Garvey and the duo Alec Völkel and Sascha Vollmer from the band The BossHoss . The first season winner was Ivy Quainoo with her song Do You Like What You See .
First phase: the blind auditions
The castings for the first season took place in June and July 2011, but were not shown on television. Around 150 of the singers - more than three quarters of them with stage experience - were invited to the blind auditions. These were recorded in Berlin at the end of August and beginning of September 2011 and broadcast in six television programs from November 24 to December 9, 2011. The jury selected 64 candidates for the second phase, in which Nena and Rea Garvey moved in with 16 each, The BossHoss with 15 and Xavier Naidoo with 17 candidates.
The seven candidates Pamela Falcon, Charles Simmons, Max Giesinger, Kim Sanders, Mic Donet, Elen Wendt and Stefan Zielasko received all four jury votes. Of these seven, four opted for Xavier Naidoo, two for Rea Garvey and one for Nena as coach.

Second phase: the battle round
The Battle Round was recorded in Berlin in September 2011 and broadcast on four television programs from December 15 to 23, 2011.
The coaches prepared the participants for the vocal duels together with advisors from their musical environment. Nena was supported by music producer and keyboardist Derek von Krogh, Rea Garvey by singer-songwriter Nerina Pallot , The BossHoss by music producer and songwriter Jan Löchel , Xavier Naidoo by music producer and songwriter Michael Herberger.
In Nena's and Rea Garvey's group there were eight one-on-one duels with one winner each. In the groups with an odd number of participants, a three-way battle took place in addition to the two-way battles. The fifteen participants in The BossHoss had six one-on-one battles and a three-way battle, from which two candidates progressed. From the seventeen candidates from Xavier Naidoo's group, seven winners from one-on-one duels and one other winner from a three-way battle were determined.
