biography

Percival, who keeps the year of his birth a secret, grew up in Texas as a child of half African American, half Cherokee Indian parents. At the age of six, Percival decided to become a singer. In 1983, Percival graduated from Dallas Arts Magnet High School where he trained in singing, dancing, and acting. He then moved to New York and appeared on Broadway musicals. The composer Cy Coleman wrote a song for him in the musical The Life .

Percival toured Europe with various bands, supporting Jamiroquai , Alanis Morissette , Lauryn Hill , Bryan Adams and Skunk Anansie . As a background singer, Percival supported various artists with their studio recordings and with their TV and live appearances. In 1998 he accompanied Chaka Khan as a background singer on her tour of Germany and Robert Palmer on his tour of England and supported Jule Neigel in 1996 with the recording of her studio album Sphinx . He was also the background singer for the appearances of Bette Midler and Michael Jackson in the show Wetten, dass ..? engaged and in the Harald Schmidt Show he appeared together with Ophélie Winter , Robbie Williams and Cher . Together with Valerie Scott he released the singles Reunited and Talk to Me as a duo Licensed to Soul . The latter song was produced by Stefan Raab and was the theme song for the talk show hosted by Bärbel Schäfer .

At the end of 2011 and beginning of 2012 he took part in the German singing casting show The Voice of Germany . He joined Rea Garvey's group , who served on the show as a juror and vocal coach. He then qualified for the live shows broadcast in early 2012, in which he was eliminated after his third of five possible appearances. Each of his three cover versions Hedonism (Just Because You Feel Good) by Skunk Anansie , Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes and Beautiful by Christina Aguilera was released as a download and entered the German single charts. In 2012, Percival began working with Michelle Leonard on his album Never Shut Up, among others . In August 2012 he presented songs from the planned album on his A-Taste-of-Never-Shut-Up tour. The first release from Percival's second studio album, Ghost , was the single Here Comes the Rain Again , a cover by Eurythmics, which was released in October 2015 .

In 2019 he released the album Killing Butterflies , on which he worked with guitarist / producer / songwriter Engel Mayr (including Russkaja ).
