Angel Mayr

Engelmayr (* 4. June 1984 in Scheibbs as Engelbert Mayr ) is an Austrian guitarist , songwriter and music producer . His albums are stylistically assigned to rock music and blues .

Engelmayr learned to play the guitar at the age of eight at the public music school Scheibbs and began soon after, in the context of teaching at Edi Köhldorfer and Peter Legat with jazz and rock music to deal with. As a teenager, he made small tours with his first band One-Eight-Seven . He later studied jazz guitar , popular music and instrumental pedagogy at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna , at the Vienna Conservatory and at the Gustav Mahler Conservatory in Vienna, where he received a diploma in jazz guitar .

From 2003 he played and composed with the band Bastard Peels and also took over the vocals. In 2005 Mayr became lead guitarist for the band Hallucination Company . In 2012 the album Circus der Hallucinationsen ( Hoanzl ) was released, on which he not only played the guitars, but also composed many pieces for it.

From 2009 he worked with the singer Georgij Alexandrowitsch Makazaria and also played as a guitarist in his band Russkaja . In 2012 he became a permanent member of the band as guitarist, composer and producer and still works in this position today. Mayr played with Russkaja at important European festivals such as Wacken Open Air , Deichbrand , Taubertal Festival , Rockharz Open Air , Wiener Festwochen , Sziget .

Since 2018 he has composed and produced the album Killing Butterflies with the singer Percival and went on tour with him. In the same year he released the album Sacred Cow under his own name with the German record company Timezone and went on tour with his own blues rock trio , the Engel Mayr Trio .

In 2019 he produced the single Slave To The Music under his own name and worked in the studio with the singer Dorretta Carter , whose live guitarist he has been for 10 years.

As the guitarist of the band Russkaja , Mayr appears on the weekly late-night show Willkommen Österreich on ORF 1 .

He has also been a lecturer and institute director for string instruments in the field of jazz and popular music at the Jam Music Lab since 2011 .
