Edi Köhldorfer (born April 22, 1966 in Feldbach , Styria ) is an Austrian guitarist , composer , arranger and author .

Life

Edi Köhldorfer started studying classical guitar at the Graz University of Music at the age of 16 . During his studies he dealt with many styles of music and won first prize at the Concours International Yehudi Menuhin in Paris in the jazz category with violinist Benjamin Schmid .

After completing his studies in Graz , he went to Vienna and studied jazz guitar there at the Conservatory of the City of Vienna Private University (MUK). During his first year in Vienna he founded the band Hot Gossip.

After graduating, he founded the Speak trio with Volker Wadauer ( bass ) and Hary Ganglberger ( drums ), with whom he released three CDs. The result was their own formation, Edi Köhldorfer Trio , which in 2001 released the CD Edi Köhldorfer Trio - Shhh… . From 2002 to 2004 Köhldorfer worked intensively with the singer Patrizia Ferrara on a duo repertoire. A CD was released in May 2004. At the same time there was another collaboration with Benjamin Schmid on the CD Hommage á Grappelli .

From 2003 to 2013 he played with the Oberkrainer jazz and pop group Global Kryner . The first CD Global.Kryner achieved gold in Austria in 2004. In 2004 he received the Amadeus Award in the category "Best Rock / Pop Group National". The second CD, Krynology , was released in 2005; Global Kryner also represented Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 in Kiev, but was eliminated in the preliminary round. In 2006 they received the Prix ​​Pantheon in the category "precocious and spoiled", and in 2007 the third CD Weg was released . In 2008 the CD Live in Luxembourg followed , in 2009 the CD Global Kryner vs. The Rounder Girls , 2011 Global Kryner - Cover Stories . The band played around 1000 concerts, radio and TV appearances in almost 20 countries
