Hoss Power (born December 7, 1971 in Heidenheim an der Brenz ; real name Sascha Vollmer) is a German multi-instrumentalist , singer , composer , music producer and founding member of the music group The BossHoss . As a musician he works in the fields of country and rock . His most famous pieces include Stallion Battalion , Last Day and Don't Gimme That .

biography

Vollmer learned to play the violin and piano at an early age and founded his first band at the age of 14. Since there was already a pianist in it, he learned to play the guitar and sing. He also plays bass today .

In 1992 he founded the punk and rockabilly band Hot Boogie Chillun together with drummer Roberto Bangrazi , with whom he released several self-produced singles. With this band he toured Europe and the USA. Even at that time he was wearing a white Stetson , which later became a trademark of BossHoss. After their bass player left in 1998, Bangrazi and Vollmer moved to Berlin , where he still lives today. There they found a new bassist in Michael Frick , with whom Vollmer founded the band The BossHoss in 2004 under his stage name Hoss Power together with Alec Völkel aka Boss Burns . In 2005, Hot Boogie Chillun released their last album entitled 15 Reasons To R'n'R .

In late 2004, The BossHoss signed their first major record deal with Universal Music . Powers daughter was born in 2002 and his son in 2009, in the same year he received the Berlin Bear with BossHoss . From 2011 to 2013 Power and Burns shared a jury seat on the talent show The Voice of Germany . He also co-produced the album Ivy for Ivy Quainoo, whom he and Burns coached . In 2016 he took part in the film "Hanni and Nanni: More than Best Friends" in the role of father. Power and Burns have shared a jury seat at The Voice Senior since 2018 . In 2019 he was a member of the jury at The Voice Kids together with Boss Burns . On March 9, 2020, Power and Burns published the book Rock am Grill .

Musical influences

The American band The Sonics is a great influence for Power . He repeatedly recorded covers for the band such as Have Love Will Travel or Money in the version of the Sonics. In a 2011 interview with Die Welt , he also mentioned Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash as being of great influence to him. As a tribute to Presley, he wrote the song Still Crazy 'Bout Elvis from the album Liberty of Action .

In addition to his roles as guitarist, composer, producer and singer, Power works for the band as arranger , mixer and recorder of the albums. His modified Gibson guitar with the word Thanx on the back is one of his trademarks. Outside of his activities at The BossHoss, he produces and composes advertising jingles for Mercedes-Benz . Live he takes over the stylophone for the instrumental part of Hot in Herre .
