Elen (born October 9, 1989 in Berlin ; actually Elen de Jong , née Wendt ) is a German singer , street singer and songwriter .

Life

She has a brother and grew up in Berlin- Marzahn . Elen began to learn guitar at the age of six . This was followed by keyboard and at the age of 14 she started playing drums in a cover band . After school she was supposed to do an apprenticeship as hat maker . On the advice of friends, she decided to devote herself to music. Elen began her career as a street musician at the age of 17. The success soon came. Her fan base grew and she was able to make a living from music. Interviews in various newspapers and appearances on radio stations such as Radio Berlin 88.8 soon followed .

In 2011 she discovered a scout for the television show The Voice of Germany , who persuaded Elen to take part in the show. With her version of the Cyndi Lauper title Time After Time , she impressed all four jurors. In the "battle" of the 1st season, however, she was eliminated afterwards. Now other TV channels became aware of Elen. This was followed by appearances on ZDFtivi , on the ZDF morning magazine and on the turntable - also ZDF. For the film Patong Girl she sang the theme song Will you love me in December , which was awarded as "Best Song" at the 2015 Transgender Film Festival Awards.

In order to remain independent of the big labels for the time being and to fulfill her dream of her own album, Elen decided to use crowdfunding for the financing . Within a short time, the desired amount was not raised, but it was enough for the production of the album Elen with twelve tracks and a single from Nobody else . When the album was bought, one euro went to the children's aid organization Die Arche .

Elen is the ambassador of the Bundesverband Kinderhospiz eV and supports the children's aid organization Die Arche .

In October 2015 she performed with Inas Nacht and with Marius Müller-Westernhagen , u. a. at MTV Unplugged . In April 2016 she sang a song from the Elen album at the Grimme Prize ceremony .

In 2016 Elen earned her living as a street musician in Berlin. Because she had not applied for a permit from the district administration, she was asked to pay 400 euros several times. Because she refused, she was sentenced to a fine of 1,000 euros in court. Berlin politicians on the left then criticized the judges at the Tiergarten district court and presented her with 850 euros.

When she performed on Alexanderplatz , she was discovered by Marius Müller-Westernhagen .

Elen signed in 2017 a contract with the record company Vertigo Records of Universal Music . In 2018 Elen moved from Berlin to Hohensaaten , a district of Bad Freienwalde , and lives there with her husband on a small farm.

After appearing on the show Inas Nacht in October 2019, her song Liegen ist Frieden reached number 3 on the iTunes charts .
