The song was written by Axel Bosse , Julian Cassel, Alina Süggeler and Andreas Weizel. The single was produced by Alina Süggeler and Andreas Weizel. The song was mastered at Sterling Sound in New York under the direction of Tom Coyne; the single was mixed by Moritz Enders. The single was released under the Warner Music Group music label . On the cover of the maxi single you can see Süggeler's face in front of a black background, in addition to the artist name and song title. The cover picture was shot by German photographer Alexander Gnädinger and designed by Katharina Coen.

The first publication of What shall we dream on April 1, 2011 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland . The single is available for download and as a physical sound carrier. The total length of the video is 3:40 minutes. Directed by Hagen Decker, it was produced by Marko Valic. To date, the video has over 11.2 million views on YouTube (as of November 2015). In 2012 the music video was nominated for an ECHO Pop in the category “Best Video (national)”.
