Gold is a song of the British new wave - band Spandau Ballet . The track is the fourth single from their third studio album True .
Creation and artwork
Gold was written by Gary Kemp and produced by Steve Jolley, Tony Swain and the band members. The single was released under the music label Chrysalis Records . On the cover of the maxi single, next to the band name and song title, a caricature of a person can be seen. The cover picture was designed by David Band. The recordings took place at Compass Point Studios in Nassau (Bahamas) .
Publication and promotion
The first release of the single took place worldwide on August 1, 1983, with the exception of the release in Peru , this took place in 1984. In Australia there is a limited version of the single, which is covered with a gold-colored transparency. In the Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries, the single is nicknamed "Oro".

The lyrics to Gold are in English. The music and lyrics were written by Gary Kemp . Musically, the song moves in the realm of New Wave . The song is about never losing faith in yourself and never giving up, you should always believe in yourself and your strength, then you will succeed in everything you want.
In an interview with The Daily Telegraph , singer Tony Hadley said gold was a song that kids still love to sing in student bars and across the country today. It is one of the main reasons why he gets so many show requests. The song is still in great demand at awards ceremonies.

Music video
The music video for Gold was shot in Carmona, Andalusia . In the video is u. a. the British actress Sadie Frost to see a golden nymph plays. The total length of the video is 3:50 minutes. To date, the video has over 15 million views on YouTube (as of October 2019). Directed by Brian Duffy.

Charts
Gold reached position 16 in the single charts in Germany and stayed in the charts for a total of 16 weeks. In Great Britain the single reached position two and stayed in the top 10 for four weeks and in the charts for nine weeks. In the United States, the single reached position 29 in the charts for twelve weeks. Gold was 32nd in the British 1983 annual charts.
For Spandau Ballet this was the second chart success in Germany and the third in the USA. In the UK it was the eleventh chart success and the seventh top 10 hit for the band.

- Creation and artwork
The new gold version by Frida Gold is not a pure copy of the song by Spandau Ballet. The music was completely taken over from the original, parts of the original text were retained in the chorus. The stanzas consist of a newly written German text by Alexander Freund. The single was produced by Carsten Heller. The single was mastered at Sterling Sound in New York City under the direction of Ted Jensen, it was mixed by Moritz Enders. The single was released under the Warner Music Group music label . The cover of the single is the same as that of the studio album Juwel (Gold Edition) .
- Publication and promotion
The single was released as a download on December 2, 2013. It is only available as a single download and not as a maxi single . Frida Gold recorded the song after the album was awarded a gold record by Juwel and was then re-released as a "Gold Edition" with bonus tracks.
- Music video
The music video for Gold premiered on November 25, 2011 on YouTube. The 3:39 minute long video shows excerpts from Frida Gold's 2011 Juwel Tour . To date, the video has over 490,000 views on YouTube (as of October 2019). The director and producer of the video was Jirka Schaar.
