Love is my religion is the second album by Frida Gold . It contains German-language songs that contain a mix of pop , electro and disco . Parts of the album were recorded in Los Angeles . The photo shoot for the booklet took place in London. The album was awarded gold in Germany.

background

As with the debut album, most of the pieces were again written by Alina Süggeler and Andi Weizel. After the festival summer 2012 was over, the two retired to their own studio in Berlin to collect ideas for the second album. The band members then moved to a small beach house in Venice , Los Angeles to continue working on the second album. During the album production, Frida Gold worked with various international producers, such as Guy Chambers , the former producer of Robbie Williams , Billy Mann, the producer and co-writer of Pink and with Rick Nowels , who had previously worked with Madonna and Lana del Rey , together. The album will be finalized in Berlin.

The cover shoot took place in February 2013 in collaboration with star photographer Rankin in London. Süggeler had previously worked with Rankin on a shoot for the Diesel Black Gold Fall / Winter 2012 collection.

At the Echo Awards 2013 in March 2013, Frida Gold presented the first single Love is My Rebellion for the first time , which contains a sample of Galas Freed from Desire from 1996. The accompanying music video was staged by the Berlin director Specter , the label boss of Aggro Berlin .

review

Frida Gold during an autograph session in Hamburg, where they presented the songs from the second album.

The reviews of love is my religion were mixed. Kai Butterweck from Laut.de awarded three out of five possible points and says Frida Gold will present themselves on their second album in an almost tailor-made sound wardrobe. The twelve new songs would seamlessly tie in with the first work Juwel . He praises the detailed arrangements and thoughtful lyrics, which would now fill the gaps in the not yet fully developed debut album. He positively rates the well-known Eurodance vibes in the songs 6 Billion and Love is My Rebellion . He rates the change between German and English negatively in the texts, which still refer to a certain uncertainty. He also criticizes the fact that the songs Miss You and Your Love are getting too kitsch.

Daniel Køtz from CDStarts.de awarded only 2.5 out of 10 possible points. He also thinks that love is my religion, based on my first fruits, but this time the arc has been overstepped. The texts written by Alina Süggeler and Andi Weizel consisted of high school poetry and wisdom that are difficult to endure in their very own way. In addition, the change to English gives the songs an uncomfortable flippancy. Musically, the album is too smooth and lackluster for him. He criticizes that the single Love is my Rebellion leads to pumping dance pop and describes Eurodance as trash . The mixture of pop, electro and dance sounds is less innovative and boring than on the debut album Juwel . He positively rates the song Things have changed , as a thoroughly pleasing ballad. In conclusion, Køtz draws that the album would be more appearance than reality and stand between the chairs and appear irrelevant, disappointing and meaningless.

Björn Strößner from Bayern 3 gives the album 3.5 out of a possible 5 points and rates the change between German and English as positive. All songs are well produced. The title Miss You, sung entirely in English, does not look bad for Frida Gold either. In conclusion, Strößner draws that the album is catchy and danceable - sometimes a little too philosophical, but it would be a good German pop album.
