Echo award 2013
The 22nd Echo Award of the German Phono Academy took place on March 21, 2013 in the Berlin Palais am Funkturm . The gala was moderated by Helene Fischer and broadcast on the television station Das Erste . There were 27 categories at the Echo 2013. The industry awards for “Trading Partner of the Year”, “Media Partner of the Year”, “Most Successful Producer / Producer Team National”, “Critics Award” and the “Honorary ECHO for Social Commitment” were presented during a charity dinner organized by the Musik Hilft Foundation on March 20th Presented in 2013.
With a rate of 3.73 million viewers, the audience response was stronger than in 2012, when with 2.58 million viewers, one of the worst audience figures since the echo award was established.
Controversy in advance
In the run-up to the Echo Awards, the bands said MIA. , The Doctors and Kraftklub in protest against the nomination for the band Frei.Wild from South Tyrol, which they consider right-wing, decided to take part in the award ceremony. Due to the resulting discussion, the German Phono Academy was forced to withdraw the nomination for Frei.Wild .
