Babel is the second studio album of British folk-rock - band Mumford & Sons . It was published in German-speaking countries on September 21, 2012 by Universal.
Emergence
The recordings for the album took place between 2011 and 2012 in various studios in Great Britain, the USA and France. Markus Dravs, who worked with the band on the previous album, was chosen as the producer. The album itself was released in German-speaking countries on September 21, 2012.

In Great Britain , the United States , Canada , Flanders , the Netherlands , Norway , and New Zealand the album was able to place itself at number one in the respective charts, in Germany , Austria , Switzerland , and Australia it reached second place. With fourth place in Denmark and Sweden , fifth place in Italy and eighth place in Portugal , further top ten placements were achieved. There were further chart entries for the album in Wallonia with number 11, in Spain with number 12, in Finland with number 19, number 31 in Poland and number 67 in France .
The first single, I Will Wait , reached top ten positions in New Zealand (4th place), Ireland (7th) and Canada (9th). There were further placements in the singles charts in Great Britain with number 12, in Flanders with number 14, in Australia and the USA with number 23, in Switzerland with number 39, in Sweden with number 50 and in Germany with number 53.
The second single, Lover of the Light , was only able to place in the USA with number 97.
Awards
In Austria and Belgium received Babel each a gold record in the US and Germany , there was a platinum record. There were two awards each in Australia, Canada, Ireland and New Zealand.
The album was nominated in four categories at the Grammy Awards 2013 and received an award for album of the year . It's also nominated for Album of the Year at the BRIT Awards . Rolling Stone magazine listed Babel as # 11 of the best albums of 2012.
reception
The album was received positively to mixed by music critics . Metascore calculates an average rating of 63% based on 32 reviews and awards the title "generally favorable" (dt. "Generally positive" ).
The highest rating given album of laut.de . Critic Deborah Katona is of the opinion that there is nothing to criticize and that none of the songs seem like a gap filler.
Ian Winwood from the BBC also praises the album, in which Mumford & Sons have found a way to stand out from the crowd and develop their own style of music.
The Rolling Stone awards 3.5 out of 5 possible points. On the one hand, critic Will Hermes praises the arrangement of the album and the individual songs, but also criticizes the fact that the folk content on this album is too low in some places.
James Christopher Monge from Allmusic sees some weaknesses on the lyrical level, but on the other hand praises the musical performance of the band. It awards three out of five possible stars as a rating.
