Mrs. Green Bird is a German folk - Duo . In November 2012, it won the third season of the German singing talent show X Factor .

biography

Singer Sarah Nücken and guitarist Steffen Brückner met in Cologne in 2006 at Club Underground. Nücken studied social work and was active as a singer in gospel choirs and bands. Brückner was also a band musician and, among other things, worship leader of the Cologne West Church. Then they made music in pairs and with bands, including the indie pop band Plus 49 . At first they jokingly called themselves Goldthroat and the Man in the Hat , later they changed the name to Mrs. Greenbird . The idea for the name came from a dead green parrot that they found in front of their house. They chose him when they were booked for their first major concert appearance in support of actor and singer Tim Robbins and the band.

In the fall of 2012, Mrs. Greenbird took part in the third season of the German version of the vocal talent show X Factor . The duo arranges hits from various musical genres in their own mix of folk, country and pop styles. In the competition it interpreted such diverse songs as the electro song Too Close by Alex Clare , the fun pop song You're the One That I Want from the musical Grease , the rock ballad Creep from Radiohead , the punk rock classic Blitzkrieg Bop from the Ramones and the pop ballad Frozen by Madonna . The duo played the last two songs in their first live shows. They were then offered for download and reached number 63 and 92 in the German charts. In the third live show, the semifinals, the duo made it into the finals of the three best performers with their own composition by Sarah Nücken and a song by the folk duo The Swell Season . There it sang on November 25, 2012 with Alanis Morissette, among others, their hit Ironic and won the competition with the song Shooting Stars & Fairy Tales they wrote themselves .

Mrs. Greenbird's first studio album, Mrs. Greenbird , was released on December 21, 2012 and went straight to number one on the German album charts. Her first live album, Live , was released on June 14, 2013 (CD and DVD) and the second studio album, Postcards , on November 7, 2014.

On March 5, 2015, Mrs. Greenbird took part in Our Song for Austria , the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 , with the song Shine Shine Shine . Among the eight participants, the duo did not qualify for the round of the best four.

The third studio album, Dark Waters , was released on April 12, 2019.

Personal

The two musicians are also a couple in their private lives. They no longer practice their professions as social pedagogue or media service provider, as they have now devoted themselves to music full-time.
