Until the End of the World is the first studio album by the German band Santiano . It was released in February 2012.
History of origin
The band consists of the musicians Hans-Timm Hinrichsen (guitar, bass, drums), Axel Stosberg (percussion, harmonica), Björn Both (guitar, bass), Andreas Fahnert (guitar) and Pete Sage (accordion, violin, mandolin , Bouzouki, percussion). Santiano was born from an idea of the music producer Hartmut Krech . The first song O Santianna (All On The Plains Of Mexico) was jammed at a party on their label Elephant Music . Since the chemistry was right, work began on more songs in 2011 and the album was recorded.

Music genre
Santiano mix on the album typical shanties , shanties and typical Irish folk -pieces, with popular musical style elements from the fields of pop , folk , pop and rock music . Some songs also have metal elements, especially from the area of power metal and hard rock . The songs are cover versions of both traditional German and English sailor songs such as Blow Boys Blow , Scarborough Fair , Whiskey in the Jar and All Who Are With Us on a Pirate Voyage, as well as more modern titles such as Wish You Were Here by Rednex . The partially Germanized texts accordingly also deal with the typical sailor topics, i.e. both wanderlust and homesickness, shipping and piracy . In addition to the adaptation of traditional songs, the original compositions Free as the Wind , There is only water , The wind calls my name and country in sight are represented on the album. In Far across the sea is Nicole Lorenzen heard on vocals.

In March 2012 the album reached the top of the German album charts. In September, it was certified platinum for 200,000 units sold. In September 2012 a new edition of the album was released, which was expanded to include four new songs. A recording of a concert in the Hamburg fish auction hall was released in November as a live version of the album on two CDs and as a DVD.
In December, Till the End of the World achieved double platinum status. In the 2013 annual evaluation by media control, the album was ranked 6th. On March 21, 2013, it was awarded an ECHO in the folk music category, and in December 2018 it achieved thirteen-fold gold status in Germany for over 1.3 million units sold, making it one of the best-selling music albums until the end of the world in Germany since 1975.
Singles
On March 23, 2012, the album's title track was released as a single on CD. The title had already entered the German single charts through individual digital downloads after appearing on the TV show Willkommen bei Carmen Nebel .
After the band's appearance at the Echo Awards ceremony in March 2013, when they sang the title There is Only Water with Andreas Gabalier , this title also made it into the German single charts as a single download.
