The Doors are a German-speaking band from Berlin .

They cannot be assigned to any musical style. They play pop , ( indie ) rock , soul , funk , electro to punk rock , ska or doo wop . In an interview, music journalist Thomas Groß referred to her as the “fortune cookie of a post-Fordist world” due to her variety of styles.

history

The three band founders come from the area around Borken . There they played in some school bands and came to Berlin in 2001 and 2002 after several jobs and courses. There they joined together in 2002 to form the band The Doors . According to the band, the band name is not based on the American rock band The Doors , but came about when they finally came across nonsense words while looking for a suitable name and Maurice Summen said: “Then we could just as easily call ourselves The Doors. “Since they couldn't win a record label , they founded their own with a state act .

They recorded their first two records, Das Herz war Nihilismus and Unterwegs mit Mother Earth (which they released in collaboration with the Hamburg label Buback ) in their shared apartment on Schönhauser Allee. Michael Mühlhaus von Blumfeld and Markus Spin came to the doors for the third album . Together they released the album Popo . The packaging is reminiscent of an Aldi bag, the cover artwork is reminiscent of a discounter's brochure. The CD has a slice of beer ham printed on it .

On February 10, 2012, ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ was their fourth, regular studio album. The all-white cover artwork of the record is accompanied by a set of lettering stickers that encourage buyers to invent their own album title. Andreas Spechtl from the group Ja, Panik plays the guitar on this album. The album was nominated for the Echo 2013 in the Critics Award category. However, the price goes finally to force clubs album with K .

In 2014, Die Doors wrote a soundtrack for the art project Tor des Westens by the artists' association KUNSTrePUBLIK, a washing portal on the edge of the A 40 in the Ruhr area. The project should point out a new immigration law from June 14th to September 7th, 2014. While driving through the car wash portal, the driver could hear songs from The Doors.

In November 2014, Die Doors released the album Wir sind der Mann under the project name Der Mann together with the Berlin painter Helmut Kraus and the Cologne-based 3D animation company Industriesauger-TV . The single Ich bin ein Mann was re-released in June 2015 by the US dance label Ultra-Music and an EP was released with versions by Erobique , Deichkind and Ill Till .

In 2016, Die Doors developed the “Fussical” Der Spielmacher together with Christiane Rösinger and Jens Friebe under the musical direction of Maurice Summen . Patrick Wengenroth took over the direction. It was premiered on June 24, 2016 in Hebbel-Am-Ufer (HAU). On the same day, the album of the same name with critical songs on the topic of football was released.

On January 25, 2019, Die Doors released the triple album Exoterik , which they recorded in long jam sessions in the "Pension zu Eisenbahn" in Ringenwalde and later edited in the studio in Berlin. Andreas Spechtl switched from guitar to sequencer and keyboards on this album. Maurice Summen played guitar alongside Gunther Osburg. Chris Imler played drums and electro drums and Ramin Bijan played bass. The album contains elements of Krautrock and Techno , it quotes Sun Ra , Kraftwerk , Der Plan and Suicide .

style

The doors see themselves in the tradition of the post punch. In their texts and the design of their cover artwork, they take up stylistic elements from Dada . The doors play with aesthetic codes and use elements of a wide variety of music styles, such as the Neue Deutsche Welle , the Agit Props , Discofox , hard rock , krautrock and electronic music .
