Die Rote Sonne is a techno club in Munich . It is located on Maximiliansplatz in the center of the city and is a comparatively small club with a capacity of 300 to 400 guests.

In 2005, 2007 and 2008 the Rote Sonne was voted one of the best clubs in Europe by the readers' pool of the music magazine De: Bug .

history

The club was opened on August 5th, 2005 in the converted basement of the former Fortuna and is named after the film of the same name from 1969. Together with Harry Klein , he is considered the unofficial successor to the ultrasound , as Peter Wacha and Dorothea Zenker, two former founding members and owners of the ultrasound club, are involved in the Rote Sonne. Other owners are Martin Gretschmann (The Notwist, Console), Richard Rieger (Annette Party, Pastamusik) and the architect Bernd Bergmann.

The club operators support the use of renewable energy and operate the club with green electricity .

The weekend program mainly includes electronic music , but also punk , disco and trash . The club is open irregularly during the week, and live concerts are sometimes held. Since the club opened, well over 700 DJs, around 300 live acts and more than 100 live bands have played in the Rote Sonne . These included Acid Pauli , Animal Collective , Boys Noize , Cobra Killer , Dapayk , Dave Clarke , Dominik Eulberg , Kollektiv Turmstrasse , Laurent Garnier , Len Faki , Marek Hemmann , Miss Kittin , Monika Kruse , Patrick Pulsinger , Tiefschwarz and Troy Pierce .
