Life in a Beautiful Light is the third album by the Scottish singer-songwriter Amy Macdonald . It was released on June 8, 2012.

history

In contrast to the previous album, which was created during Amy Macdonald's touring life, she took a year off for this album. According to their own statements, this album has therefore become much “more positive, relaxed and acoustic”.

reception

Jens Bauszus wrote in Focus that, compared to the previous albums, Life in a Beautiful Light “ needed a little more time to appear in the right light. The twelve songs are no longer quite as playful, or rather, no longer tailored to be so mass-compatible. However, this does not detract from the simple beauty that shines through at the end. On the contrary. ”He gave 7 out of 10 points.

Music critic Mike Diver from BBC called the album uninspired and full of cliches, he that through the ongoing commercial success of the singer nigh surprised.

Birgit Fuß wrote in the German edition of Rolling Stone : “You cut back the exuberant instrumentation on the previous album - in favor of the good old guitar. She allows herself a few more gimmicks, a few keyboards here and there, little soundbites, but nothing that would really distract from her. "

Song information

  • The song Human Spirit is dedicated to the rescue of the buried Chilean miners during the San José mine disaster in 2010 . Macdonald described this as "a moving and inspiring event for her".
  • Left That Body Long Ago is about her grandmother 's Alzheimer's disease .
  • 4th of July bears the date of the American Independence Day in its title and is about Macdonald's memories of New York City .
  • In In the End the singer describes her feelings and her attitude towards music.
  • MacDonald wrote Pride after she was allowed to sing the unofficial Scottish national anthem The Flower of Scotland before the match between the Scottish and Spanish national football teams in the course of qualifying for the 2012 European Championship at the Hampden Park stadium .
  • The Green and the Blue takes its title from The Old Firm , the rivalry between the two Glasgow football clubs, Rangers and Celtic .
  • Slow it down is inspired by MacDonald's love for fast cars. She is a big fan of the TV magazine Top Gear and has done a few laps herself on the Silverstone race tracks and the Mercedes-Benz world on the former Brooklands race track and intends to get a racing license at some point. The song itself is about her life, which she wants to approach more calmly.
