content

The song is about Pete Doherty , the singer of the Babyshambles and the Libertines , who hit the headlines for his excessive drug use . Amy Macdonald, who describes herself as a huge fan of the Libertines, said of Doherty and her song:

“The rainbow press is horrible. You just sit there and berate him and no one stops and says, "Why did he make it out in public?" Well, he did because he was an incredibly talented musician, and I still think he is. I just think he's completely lost track. "Poison Prince" was just a song for him, from me and every other fan I know, that says: "Forget all the shit, forget all the drugs and the stupid influences and come back to the music."
