Don't Tell Me That It's Over was the first single from Amy Macdonald 's second studio album, A Curious Thing . Amy MacDonald himself wrote the lyrics and Pete Wilkinson produced the song. It was first published on February 26, 2010 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. There are three different CD covers for the single, the first one she stands in front of a wall, the second she is in a blue top on a noble bench and the third one she sits on a couch. There are two different CD formats, first there is the 2-track single, which contains the song Town Called Malice (Radio 2 Simon Mayo Session) as a B-side, then there is the normal maxi CD, with the B Pages Young Lovers , Rock 'n' Roll Star (Acoustic Version) and the music video for Don't Tell Me That It's Over .
song
In the song, Macdonald apparently sings about the negative sides of life - especially negative feelings - and wishes that one day these would all be over. However, she realizes that these pages are part of life and will therefore keep coming back:
"I dream of a day when it's all gone away and the sun is shining bright,
I dream of a day when it's all gone away, but dreams are for night."
There is also a music video for this song, in which Macdonald can be seen in a white suit, standing on a replica skyscraper roof and playing an acoustic guitar. In the background, constantly changing natural scenes such as thunderstorms and sunshine or day and night are played, which should possibly represent the interplay of the good and bad sides in life.
According to Macdonald's own statement, the main thing in the song is not to allow yourself to be patronized by others, but to take things into your own hands:
“And I wanna see, what it's all about,
And I wanna live, wanna give something back.
Don't tell me that it's over,
It's only just begun. "
