Of Monsters and Men ( English for by monsters and humans ) is an Icelandic band from Keflavík and Garðabær . Her style can be assigned to indie rock and is often compared to that of Arcade Fire .
history
The band - back then as a quartet with Nanna, Ragnar, Brynjar and Arnar - won the 2010 national band competition Músiktilraunir . After the competition, Árni and Kristján joined as additional band members. During their performances they are also usually supported by the trumpeter Ragnhildur Gunnarsdóttir, who has not yet been an official member of the band. In October 2011, Of Monsters and Men performed during the Iceland Airwaves a . a. in Reykjavík's new Harpa concert hall .
For the release of their first album, the band signed a contract with Record Records in Iceland in February 2011. In March 2011 she recorded her debut album at Studio Sýrland in Reykjavík. In August 2011, Philadelphia's radio station 104.5 began playing Little Talks in the United States , making the band known across the country.
With this song, the band stayed at number 1 in the Icelandic singles charts for several weeks in 2011. Her debut album My Head Is an Animal was released in Iceland in September 2011 and was also released on the American market in April 2012, where it reached number six on the Billboard 200, the highest ranking by an Icelandic band or artist to date. An EP Into the Woods with four selected tracks from their album was released in December 2011.
Due to their success in Iceland and their growing popularity in the USA, the band signed a contract with Universal for a worldwide release of their album . Her song Dirty Paws , from whose lyrics the album title is borrowed, was played in the 2013 film The Amazing Life of Walter Mitty and the song Silhouettes is part of the soundtrack of the film The Hunger Games - Catching Fire . In 2013 Of Monsters and Men received the European Border Breakers Award (EBBA). The album The Walking Dead (AMC's Original Soundtrack - Vol. 1) for the series of the same name , released in March 2014, contains the song Sinking Man .
The second studio album, Beneath the Skin , was released on June 8, 2015, followed by the third studio album, Fever Dream , on July 26, 2019 .
Appearances
In 2012 Of Monsters and Men played concerts in North America and some European countries, including Ireland, Germany, Italy and Sweden. In 2015, the second studio album was followed by another tour, during which the band gave three concerts in Cologne, Munich and Berlin, among others.
