Days like this is a song by the band Die Toten Hosen . It preceded the album Ballast der Republik as the first single release and was released on March 23, 2012 on the band's own label JKP . The music is by Andreas von Holst , the text was written by Campino in collaboration with Birgit Minichmayr .

Emergence

Andreas von Holst had the Worksong Black Betty inspiration, which he in the 1970s version of the band Ram Jam knew, and from which it of a piece with the working title at home in his basement studio in 2010 a demo version turning circles had taken . However, the band had put the song aside for the time being, as they were neither convinced by the melody nor by Campino could come up with a suitable text. It was only with the help of Birgit Minichmayr in the summer of 2011 that a suitable text and the title days like these emerged . The song was the first to be recorded for the album, which was to be released for the band's 30th anniversary.

When recording the title in the Principal Studios in Senden, Campino took over the vocal part as usual, Michael Breitkopf and Andreas von Holst played the rhythm and melody part on the electric guitar , Andreas Meurer accompanied the bass and Vom Ritchie sat on the drums .

Music and lyrics

The text describes the collective feeling of happiness when celebrating with music from a first-person perspective .

The almost four and a half minute song follows the classification: intro , first and second verse, first chorus , third verse, second and third chorus followed by an outro . A simple riff in D major , performed by Andreas von Holst , introduces the song with a few bars and accompanies the melody part, sung by Campino in all verses. In the second verse the drums kick in, played by Vom Ritchie . The electric bass and the second electric guitar , played by Andreas Meurer and Michael Breitkopf , can only be heard from the first chorus.

The first part of the song, which consists of two stanzas, describes the anticipation and the meeting with the friend or acquaintance at the agreed point. They make their way to the venue, which is located in Düsseldorf , because according to the original text they pave their way "along the streets, to the Rhine terraces over the bridges, to the music."

This is followed by the chorus of all band members in the first chorus: “On days like these, you wish for infinity. On days like these we still have forever. I wish for infinity. "

The third verse is about not wanting to stop swimming and diving in the crowd, but also about protecting one another. At the point it says: “Come on, I'll carry you through the people. Do not be afraid, I'll take care of you. "

The following second and third chorus was supplemented with the sentence “On this night of nights, which promises so much to us, we experience the best, no end is in sight”, the last part of which forms the end of the song in multiple repetitions.
