Grace is the debut album of the singer Mandy Capristo and also the singer's second name. The album was released on April 27, 2012 by Starwatch and EMI .
background
About the title and the concept of her debut album, Capristo said: “The more than one year album production was for me personally the biggest challenge that I have mastered so far. It was the most intense and emotional time of my life. I got the best out of every tear, all sleepless nights and all criticism and put it into my songs as an experience. ”The inspiration for the album comes from dance , pop and R&B artists such as Beyoncé , Rihanna and Nicole Scherzinger . The album mixes pop music with dance and electro pop influences. Hip-hop , teen pop , and reggae elements are also partly included.
Production, promotion and cover
The album production began in 2011. The album covers topics such as love, self-confidence, career and courage. Capristo says the style of her album is close to that of her former girl group Monrose . It includes up-tempo numbers and soulful ballads. She made several appearances to promote her album, including The Dome , Echo and Bambi . In April 2012 she made a promotional tour across Germany .
The CD cover photographed by Anelia Janeva shows Capristo in a white jacket. For the booklet she posed on the beach in Malaga . The photographer for this shoot was Sandra Ludewig. The booklet also contains other recordings by Anelia Janeva.
Music and lyrics
The album starts with Allow Me . The song has rap elements, is an up-tempo number and is about Capristo: "My name is Mandy, second name is Grace! […] I know I can make it!" . The second song is the first single The Way I Like It . This is followed by the mid-tempo song Overrated , which is characterized by contemporary R&B . The song is about the lonely time as a single, when you 've just broken up with your partner: "I'm on my own - I never thought that I would say this, single life is overrated! Alone is overrated!" The 4th song, Side Effects, is the album's first ballad. This is followed by an equally calm song called Sing . The message of this piece is that everyone should sing the feelings and the pain from their soul. Hurricane is about the calm before the storm. The verses are calm, the chorus is more catchy: "He left me, when he walked away, this love - his love is like a hurricane" . The constant change of pace from slow to fast is noticeable.
In the 7th song Closer , Capristo shows himself from a different side. This is the first song that belongs to the rock genre . It Don't Matter follows , a simple composition that is reduced to instruments and voice. The 9th track is Risque , another mid-tempo number. Then comes Intense with a spirited drum and guitar sound and Capristo's rough staccato singing: "In the morning, when I woke up, I realized it was so intense" . Song number 11 is Otherside , a cover of the Red Hot Chili Peppers , here as a ballad. Eventually the album ends with the title song Grace . This is Capristo's most personal song that was co-written and produced by her and tells her personal story. At the end she accompanies herself on the piano and sings in Italian.

The reviews of Grace varied. Amelie Köppl from Laut.de awarded two out of five possible points and described some of the songs as boring and monotonous. Only The Way I Like It and It Don't Matter received positive attention. It was a nicely meant debut, but unfortunately it also proves that the new style targeted by the Monrose chick does not pay off in the length of the album.
CD reviews praised the variety of songs and the profundity as well as Capristo's heart and soul, but also criticized the fact that there was no distinctive catchy tune. All in all, her debut was a very personal piece of work and a very interesting prelude to her solo career, which has only just really started.
MonstersandCritics writes: “'Grace' is dominated by opulently arranged dramas and striving for eroticism instead of originality. In pompous ballads like 'Overrated', 'Side Effects' or 'It Don't Matter', Capristo once again suffers the romantic disappointments of her young life with a velvety voice. "
The music magazine Max.de praises the recognition value of Capristo's voice. This is best demonstrated with reduced instruments. Grace is the new calling card of the German-Italian.
