The Palais am Funkturm , including its interior, is a listed event hall of the Messe Berlin directly on the exhibition grounds at the radio tower , opposite the House of Radio on Masurenallee . In front of it there is a large parking lot and taxi ranks. Originally built as a ballroom, it now serves as a functional event location and is often used for award ceremonies, such as B. that of the Echo 2016 . The building consists of two floors.

history

The Palais am Funkturm was built in 1956/57 according to plans by Bruno Grimmek , Werner Düttmann and Werner Klenke as one of the most modern event locations in Germany. Grimmek built the palace to the rear of the so-called "Hall of Honor" (Hall 19) from 1936. Due to the destruction of numerous Berlin exhibition halls from the 1920s during World War II, the reconstruction of functional halls began in 1950. In the 1960s and 1970s in West Berlin, balls were regularly held in the Palais - up to 120 a year.

Facility

The Palais am Funkturm is characterized by its particularly spacious architectural design in the style of the 1950s. In addition, great importance was attached to the functionality of the building during the construction, so the building is equipped with a retractable staircase, folding walls and a height-adjustable chandelier . Mushroom and teardrop lamps hang down from the ceiling decorated with gold leaf . The Palais can accommodate up to 2400 guests. Halls 18 and 20 are directly connected to the Palais.
