Milk & Sugar is a German DJ - and producer - duo in the House -Music and a music label .
history
Michael Kronenberger (aka. Milk) and Steffen Harding (aka. Sugar) started the DJ and producer project Milk & Sugar in 1997, under the influence of the disco house music style that emerged in London in the mid-1990s . Shortly afterwards they founded their own label with Milk & Sugar Recordings . At first they only published their own productions here, but in 1998 they began to sign other artists such as Damien J. Carter, Tim Deluxe or Robbie Rivera. Milk & Sugar Recordings received the Dance Music Award as Germany's best independent label in 2000.
The label's most successful artist after Milk & Sugar was Kid Alex , who was signed worldwide by Universal Music Group in 2003 with his track Young Love (Topless) and the album Colorz . After the contract expired, Kid Alex formed his new group Boys Noize in 2007 .
Milk & Sugar had their international breakthrough as a DJ and producer act with Higher & Higher in 2000 after house music icon David Morales used the song on a compilation album. 2001 Milk & Sugar was able to land a Top 40 hit in the official sales charts with Love Is in the Air in Spain , Germany and the United Kingdom . The title used the original recording of the 1977 disco hit Love Is In The Air , sung by John Paul Young , who also appeared in the 2001 video with Milk & Sugar. In the same year Milk & Sugar won the Italian DJ Award and played a tour with US DJs David Morales, Frankie Knuckles and Tony Humphries.
In 2003, Milk & Sugar's single, Let the Sun Shine, was the most successful single in the sales charts; it reached number 1 in Hungary and the US Billboard Hot Dance Charts, as well as the top 20 in the UK, Greece , the Netherlands and Spain. As a singer Milk & Sugar obliged the then unknown singer and actress Lizzy Pattinson, the sister of actor Robert Pattinson .
In the following years Milk & Sugar worked on their profile as DJs and remixers. They produced the remix Corner of the Earth for Jamiroquai , remixed C'mon Get Up for Janet Jackson , and the track My Way for Usher . Commissions for No Angels , Mýa , Sarah Brightman , Samantha Mumba , Alex Gaudino , Room 5 , Despina Vandi and many others followed. As DJs, they first gained international experience in clubs such as Amnesia , Space or El Divino in Ibiza . Initially, they were booked in England, France , Spain, Italy and countries around the Mediterranean. From 2002 they played more and more often in Central and Eastern Europe, for example Russia , Ukraine , Poland , Hungary, Moldova , Romania and Belarus .
In 2005 Milk & Sugar landed another chart success in Germany with Howard Jones' 1980s classic What Is Love , not least because of the animated music video for this title.
Milk & Sugar has been working with the singer and songwriter Ayak Thiik, who was born in Sudan in 1983 and grew up in London, since 2005 . In the beginning, Latin House influenced tracks like Shut Up and Need Your Loving were created . With their third collaboration, Stay Around (For This) , Milk & Sugar were able to land another international hit. As the most successful house track of 2007 in Brazil (number 2 in the charts), and in 2008 as number 1 in the English club charts.
On Let the Sun Shine 2009 Milk & Sugar collaborated with the Jamaican vocalist Gary Nesta Pine , who became known as the successor to Bob Marley at The Wailers , and who sang the world hit Love Generation for the French DJ Bob Sinclar . Also Let the Sun Shine in 2009 came into the English club charts at first
The two subsequent collaborations between Milk & Sugar and Ayak also reached number 1 in the English club charts: You Got Me Burnin and Let The Love (Take Over) . A recording of a live performance by Milk & Sugar and Ayak can be found on the DVD of the 2009 Planet Pop event in São Paulo .
At the end of 2010 they released a remix of the song Hey (Nah Neh Nah) , which was also made in versions by other producers such as B. Rico Bernasconi appeared at the same time. The remix by Milk & Sugar was the most commercially successful and was ranked 7th in the top ten in Germany, 6th in Austria, 4th in Switzerland, 5th in the Netherlands and 10th and 10th in the Flemish part of Belgium in the Walloon part of Belgium it reached number 46 on the Ultratop Charts. Overall, the single reached the top ten on the sales charts in ten countries and was awarded gold in Germany and Austria.
In summer 2011 they released a new version of the 1960s classic Pata Pata by Miriam Makeba . In the following years they cooperated with various singers, u. a. with Barbara Tucker and the South African singer Nomfusi .
With the Venezuelan singer María Márquez, Milk & Sugar landed another international hit in 2014, which reached number 1 in the charts in Turkey and Romania and was viewed over 6 million times on YouTube. The title “Canto Del Pilón” was also able to place itself at the top of the charts on the Beatport download portal .
Since Milk & Sugar was founded, mix compilations have been released on CD, download and stream via its own record label at regular intervals. In 2016, the release “Beach Sessions” made it to number 7 on the iTunes album charts, while the album “Destination: Rio De Janeiro” reached number 10 on the iTunes album charts in January 2017.
In 2017 Milk & Sugar will celebrate its 20th anniversary as a DJ and producer act as well as a record label. A new album and a worldwide tour are planned for this.
