biography
His Young family immigrated to Australia when John Paul Young was a child and settled in Sydney . In the early 1970s he became a singer in the rock band Elm Tree. From 1972 to 1974 he played in the Australian production of the musical Jesus Christ Superstar . In addition, he was initially also a radio host .
After a few unsuccessful singles , he was cared for by the producer team Harry Vanda and George Young . The result was a number of Australian hits, including a. Pasadena (written by Young, Vanda and British actor David Hemmings ), Yesterday's Hero , St. Louis , The Love Game , Here We Go , Keep On Smiling , Where the Action Is , I Hate the Music and I Wanna Do It with You . There were also some hits in Europe , Asia and South Africa . Yesterday's Hero was also a respectable success in the USA .
In 1978 Young had his greatest success with Standing in the Rain and especially Love Is in the Air , his only worldwide hit. The next singles were less successful. Young's last top ten hit in Australia for the time being was Soldier of Fortune in 1983 .
Young's producer, George Young, was the older brother of AC / DC members Angus Young and Malcolm Young . The resulting frequently read claim that John Paul Young is also a brother of the latter two is based on confusion and is therefore incorrect.
In 2009 John Paul Young was honored with the induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame .
