Tien (TV station)

Tien (formerly Talpa ) was the name of a commercial television station in the Netherlands . It was part of Talpa Media Holding .

The name "Talpa" is the Latin word for mole, mol in Dutch, which refers to the surname of the founder John de Mol . Talpa officially opened on August 13, 2005. It initially only broadcast in the evening and shared the channel with Nickelodeon . On December 16, 2006, the station was renamed "Tien" and expanded its program to 24 hours.

After John de Mol joined RTL Nederland , Tien was absorbed into the new RTL 8 channel on August 18, 2007 .
